The #JejuUprising on Jeju Island off #SouthKorea began on #ThisDayInHistory in 1948, in response to violent US-backed cops. By the time it was suppressed in May 1949, 70% of villages were destroyed & 10% of the population (~80k) was dead. Mention of the uprising was then banned.
