>Taking Back Control<

Up front, please be aware that domestic violence and its impacts take center stage. Tackling hard subjects is one of the things I love (in a bittersweet way) about Hannah's books. She doesn't shy from it, and a couple of scenes are graphic, so take care when reading.

Now, if you continue, I hope you love this as much as I do. Smith Sawyer and Gemma (Gem, Firefly) Jones are special. Stupid decisions when they were teens resurface, but how they get past it holds a tender place in my soul. This is a heart-wrenching, sweet, charming, steamy, and take-back-my-power book.

-- Book quote
'I know the demons will come back once the fun is over.'
-- Gemma Jones

I love how they each recognize the coping mechanisms that Gemma uses and how they handle them. I also appreciate that once she opens Pandora's box, she slowly lets others see behind the mask. It's not an easy thing to do.

Another thing, y'all, this book made me cry a couple of times. In one instance, there's an incredibly sweet scene with them and Storm, Smith's dog, that absolutely melted my cold, dark heart. (Fine, my heart isn't dark, but you get the picture.)

As is common with Hannah's books, cameos from other books - in and outside this series - make appearances. No prior reading is required, but if you think there's more to the story for another person or couple, there likely is, and in most cases, it is available to read. In many ways, these people, most of whom are (found) family, help lift the narrative and lighten the heavy subject with properly placed jokes, teasing, and fantastic banter.

I read along with the audio book. The narrators, John Masterson and Monique Makena, are wonderful. You can feel the heart that they bring to these characters. ๐ŸŽง๐Ÿฉต๐ŸŽง
