Stylish Retro-futuristic mix of sci do and superheroics as the Fantastic Four take on Galactus for the fate of Earth 828 8/10

#JulyMovies 48) Sting (2024) a young girl living in an apartment building finds a rare spider that turns out to be a deadly alien. Comedy horror that skews too heavily towards the comedy 4/10

#JulyMovies 47) Drinking Buddies (2013) co workers Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson also like to socialise over beers after work despite both having partners. Well acted melodrama which is NOT about alcoholism 6/10

#JulyMovies 46) The Long Haul (1957) soldier turned trucker Victor Mature falls in with the wrong crowd including femme fatale Diana Dors in a decent British crime drama 6/10

#JulyMovies 45) Cleo from 5 to 7 (1962) A singer travels around Paris while she waits for test results from the hospital. Charmingly quirky French new wave from writer/director Agnes Varda

#JulyMovies 44) Local Hero (1983)
Bill Forsyth’s comedy about big business trying to buy up a small Scottish town has lost none of its charm 8/10

#JulyMovies 43) A Nice girl Like you (2020) accused of pornophobia by an ex Boyfriend Cellist Lucy Hale decides to expand her sexual horizons. Entertaining romcom 7/10

#JulyMovies 42) Incredible but True (2022) typically quirky Quentin Dupieux film about fears of lost youth and fertility told through a time travelling portal and an electronic penis. Has to be seen to be believed 8/10

#JulyMovies 41) Spellbound (1945) Alfred Hitchcock directs a gripping psychological thriller about a psychiatrist who turns out to be an imposter and possibly a murderer 8/10

#JulyMovies 40) Arthur and Mike (2012) A former golf pro living under an assumed name after faking his own death meets a kleptomaniac pretending to be her own sister. An exploration of identity which sadly falls flat. 4/10

#JulyMovies 39) The Curious Caterer: Grilling Season (Served with a side of Murder) (2019) a caterer and a police detective join forces to solve a murder 5/10

#JulyMovies 38) Burning Rubber aka Trading Paint (2019) John Travolta gets back into the racing game when his son joins a rival team. Tedious and uninvolving domestic drama with leaden racing scenes 2/10

#JulyMovies 37) Materialists (2025) Celine Song uses romcom tropes to explore relationships and what people look for in a life partner. Far more than the sum of its parts and a genuine modern masterpiece 10/10

#JulyMovies 36) Genova (2008) Following the loss of his wife Colin Firth takes his two daughters to Italy to start over but the past follows them. A sort of ghost story from Michael Winterbottom, starts and ends strongly but sags noticeably in the middle 6/10

#JulyMovies 35) Kids in Love (2016) Will Poulter gives a solid performance in an unremarkable coming of age tale 4/10

#JulyMovies 34) Hitcher in the Dark (1989) a girl is held captive in a camper van by an obsessed man.
Psychological horror that is nowhere near as bloody or brutal as it claims to be. And suffers from some unconvincing performances 4/10

#JulyMovies 33) Four letters of Love (2024)
Flat Irish romance with some religious symbolism that may or may not be meant in earnest. It would probably be hilarious if it wasn’t so lifeless 4/10

#JulyMovies 32) Barbie (2023) Greta Gerwig’s Mattel Masterpiece 10/10

#JulyMovies 31) The hunchback of Notre Dame (1976)
BBC adaptation of Victor Hugo’s novel with Warren Clarke as Quasimodo. The studio bound production makes it feel more like a play than a film. There are some familiar Doctor Who faces in supporting roles 6/10

#JulyMovies 29) Marlowe (2023) Liam Neeson is a solid Phillip Marlowe in Neil Jordan’s disappointingly bland adaptation of The Black Eyed Blonde. Maybe it’s because the original book wasn’t by Chandler but this lacks the grit & sexiness of the classic Marlowe adaptations

#JulyMovies 28) The trial of the Incredible Hulk (1989) Banner and the Hulk get caught up in the war between Daredevil and a surprisingly hirsute Kingpin in this revival movie/ back door pilot) 4/10

#JulyMovies 26) Deep Cover (2025) an improv teacher and her two worst students are asked to help the police with a minor sting operation but end up way over their head. Entertaining comedy thriller with some laugh out loud moments 7/10

Dire contemporary western with Lennie James as a small town sheriff with amnesia protecting the townsfolk from his former gang 2/10
