I knew with absolute certainty that there was something I could say that would completely turn this situation around. If I could just find the right phrase, the right tone, this entire disaster could be salvaged and everything could go on as before. But my mind was a blank. I was speechless. Everyone was looking at me - they knew this was my time to shine. I opened my mouth in hopes that my brain would take the hint, but it didn't, so now I was just gawping. It was hopeless.
