🟥 8 Years of Rohingya Genocide – No Justice, No Accountability 🟥

Eight years since the genocide, more than one million Rohingya remain stateless and trapped in camps. Perpetrators are free, justice is delayed, and repatriation is uncertain. RAR Institute, a Rohingya scholars–led research institute, calls on the international community to act, hold perpetrators accountable, ensure reparations and restore rights.

FACT-CHECK REPORT | Disinformation & Hate Speech Against the Rohingya

Date: April 17, 2025
Prepared by: RGPRN Fact CheckTeam
Targeted by: Facebook User Htin Zaw
Language of Post: Burmese

We are deeply concerned by a recent Facebook post that spreads disinformation and promotes Islamophobia, targeting the Rohingya people. The post falsely claims that “There has never been anything called Rohingya in world history” and refers to Rohingya identity as “only lies.” These are not mere opinions—they are dangerous falsehoods that fuel hate, denial, and potential violence.

FACTS THAT MATTER:
 1. Historical Documentation:
The Rohingya have been recognized as a native Muslim community in Arakan since the 1400s, and were full citizens of the Arakan Kingdom. British colonial scholar Francis Buchanan (1799) recorded the term “Rooinga” to describe them.
 • Official Myanmar records in 1961 under Prime Minister U Nu used the term “Rohingya” in public broadcasts.
 • British Burma Gazetteer, Myanmar Citizenship Law (1982), and international reports by the UN, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch all recognize the Rohingya as an ethnic group indigenous to Rakhine State.
 2. Genocide Warning Indicators:
Denying a group’s identity is a known early warning sign of genocide. This post is part of a broader pattern of dehumanizing rhetoric that has historically led to mass atrocities, including the 2012 and 2017 Rohingya crackdowns and displacement.
 3. Islamophobic Rhetoric:
The claim that there is “no such thing as Rohingya” is not only false—it erases the identity, history, and dignity of an entire people. This disinformation aligns with extremist narratives that deny Muslim presence in Myanmar’s historical context.

OUR VERDICT: FALSE & DISCRIMINATORY

We CONDEMN the violent abduction & beating of Jahid Hussein, a Rohingya refugee from Kutupalong Camp.

Demanding 40,000 Taka ransom is EXPLOITATION of vulnerable populations.

Bangladesh authorities MUST investigate this CRIME & protect refugees' right to movement & safety. #JusticeForRohingya

Myanmar confirms 180,000 Rohingya eligible to return, Bangladesh says The 180,000 names were part of a list of 800,000 Rohingya that Bangladesh submitted to Myanmar in six batches.

Myanmar’s genocidal military junta has lost most of Arakan State, where the Rohingya live, yet now claims 1.8 million Rohingya are eligible to return—despite lacking control and credibility

Citizenship is just paper without justice. The Rohingya deserve more than empty promises—they deserve recognition, reconciliation, and a future where their voices are heard. No one should have to fight for the right to exist. #HumanRights #JusticeForRohingya #EndGenocide

Dear @NUGMyanmar,

You claim ASSK worked for 'long-term solutions'?

Tell that to my dead relatives.
Tell that to our raped sisters.
Tell that to our burned children.

Stop protecting genocide enablers. Justice knows no hierarchy. #JusticeForRohingya
