Two kallitype prints - the left is of Jessa Ray Muse, wrapped in black fabric and leaning against a pillar with a look of grief; the right is of model Ivory Flame, reclining topless on a chaise having taken a bite of an apple. The toning gives a black and white print that has yellow-brown tones to it. These prints are close, but I'm not going to edit them for final until I've got the toning calibrated.

I'm setting up negatives for a kallitype run tomorrow - forgot to post these I did of @jessaraymuse.bsky.social and Ivory Flame last week. I've posted the untoned kallitypes before - these are the same negative, but platinum/palladium toned prints.

Two kallitype prints - left is of Jessa Ray Muse, wrapped bin black fabric, and leaning against a pillar as in supplication, the right is of Ivory Flame, reclining nude on a chaise, having just taken a bite from an apple. in both photos, the model is surrounded by very dark tones, but the shadow detail and highlight details are maintained.

While I was printing, I did drafts of two low-key images, one of @jessaraymuse.bsky.social (left) and Ivory Flame (right). I was going to try and do a high-key image, but I'm not sure I've done any 🤔. These turned out really well!

Two kallitypes and their corresponding digital negatives. To the left is model Collibrina, posing nude in a chair in a lovely pose. The negative is calibrated well enough you can see her hair distinct from the background, and no blown out highlights. To the right is a step tablet print that will be used from my final adjustments.

Got the results from the first color calibration for the kallitypes! The photo of Collibrina looks pretty good for tonal distribution. The step wedge table will be used for one more (hopefully) final tweak of the system.

Cell phone photo of the step wedge printed with the "optimal" color as determined by the EDN color blocker program. Turns out optimal color is blue, which surprised me (but looking at the print I can see why). Also my continuing prints of Collibrina through the steps of this process. Not as good as the black and white calibration, but to be expected given only 3 points form the color curve. Not bad for color correction only! Next step is to use the step wedge print to figure out the color calibration curve. Getting close to finishing!

2 new kallitypes and one from my last printing session. At the top are 1) a color response chart (bunch of squares of different exposures to see how much different colors block exposure of the print) and 2) a photo of model Collibrina, sitting sideways in a chair, in the nude with a shawl on the shoulders. Photo done with a black-ink only calibration curve. At the bottom is a kallitype done with an old negative under my old system - highlights are burnt out and shadows not detailed.

Back to kallitype callibration. At the top is a color response wedge and a test print of model @collibrina.bsky.social using a black ink calibration curve. At the bottom is my prior test print based on the old system. Getting closer!

THEY LIVE! First #kallitypes I've printed in about 1-1/2 years. I had recalibrate the system, and of course life happened. I'm learning the EDN system, having been using my own modification of the Eastman House approach to digital negatives until now.
