One of the standout features of Manning’s storytelling is his decision to reveal the killer earlier than expected, this adds depth to the narrative, shifting the focus from who did it to why and how, which makes for a more engaging and psychological experience. The partnership between Kane and Granger feels authentic. Their mutual respect and personal struggles add depth to the investigation, making their relationship compelling to follow. Manning’s pacing is spot on. I couldn’t put the book down. A Body on the Flats is a dark, immersive thriller with fantastic character development and a unique narrative structure.
