Gen. Henryk Minkiewicz served in the Polish Legions in WW1 and later commanded troops in the Polish-Ukrainian and Polish-Bolshevik wars.
He retired in 1934, he was arrested by the Soviets in 1940, and 9 April 1940 was murdered in the #KatynMassacre.

Zbigniew Stypułkowski, born #OTD in 1904, narrowly escaped the #KatynMassacre after the German-Soviet invasion of Poland, and became one of the leaders of the Polish Underground State under German occupation.
After WW2, he was tried in Moscow #TrialoftheSixteen and imprisoned.
During WW2, the Russians murdered around 22,000 Polish POWs in the #KatynMassacre.
#OTD in 1980, Walenty Badylak, a Home Army veteran, set himself on fire in Kraków’s main square to protest the communist regime’s suppression of the truth about this crime.
He died that same day.
