Playing with some beats…
A Keruru’s wing beats ran through Koala and a bit of simple sequencing + an old video loop, and some video effects and mixing 😀

BIRD NEWS FLASH! I saw a kererū in Lincoln, NZ, on my bike ride home this evening. I’ve been counting birds at Lincoln since 2003 and this is the first time I’ve seen a kererū here.
I hope it sticks around.
This is the 4th kererū sighting on #iNaturalist (previously once in 2017 and twice in […]

Behold, a feeding frenzy of Plum Sharks!
Plum sharks AKA kererū, the NZ wood pigeon.
Plums are in full fruit in Ōtautahi-Christchurch city, NZ, at the moment. I was on Valley Road today in Cashmere there were at least 11 kererū feasting in the plum trees up the […]

Kererū pigeons in bare greengage tree.
Mystery solved! Kererū poo! Under a large greengage tree at Beau Vista orchard has been continuous poo. I thought possums but trap those and levels low. Then they arrived. 3 beautiful birds who had been hiding from me for weeks. Must roost in the tree at night. #kereru #orchard #NewZealand #Aotearoa

Here's a kererū (NZ wood pigeon) that I photographed last weekend. It was contentedly munching away on kōwhai leaves and didn't seem to mind me taking some photos. I love how the backlit sun makes its red eyes shine.

This afternoon I was up in the Port HIlls of Ōtautahi-Christchurch, NZ, doing my monthly biodiversity survey. The standout moment was coming eye-to-eye with a kererū, at head height, about an arm's length away. It must have seen me coming but I was looking at a […]

how
It's amazing how this bird plays such a vital role in the New Zealand ecosystem. So, imagine this plump, velvety bird, the Kererū, with its emerald green cape and bright white belly. It has a special job to do. You see, many of the trees in New Zealand have large, tough seeds. These seeds need a way to travel to new places so that new trees can grow. The Kererū is the only bird with a throat big enough to swallow these seeds whole! It's like the Kererū has a special key that unlocks the future of the forest. As the Kererū flies from tree to tree, feasting on the fruit, it carries the seeds in its belly. Later, it… well, let's just say it "deposits" the seeds in different places. This allows the seeds to grow into new trees, ensuring the survival of the forest. So, this beautiful bird, with its colorful feathers and gentle nature, is actually a hardworking gardener, planting the seeds for future generations of trees. It's a vital part of what makes New Zealand's forests so unique and precious.
This amazing Kererū is vital to New Zealand's forests. Many trees have large seeds needing help to spread. The Kererū, with its large throat, swallows them whole! Like a winged gardener, it ensures the forest's future.

A large kereru - sometimes called a New Zealand pigeon (how that little word misrepresents her magnificence!) - looks down upon the photographer and suggests he might like to consider his life choices.
Look upon my features, puny human, and make your wishes for the afterlife.
