Trant had arranged for two hotel rooms under two different names and separate check-in times. He'd advised they staggered their arrivals as well, just to be sure the fact that the rooms were adjoining ones looked like coincidence. It's easier to be discreet here than in Jamrock; in this part of town the RCM isn't seen frequently enough to be too well-known and Trant is accustomed to making excuses for his own appearances despite being more familiar to the socialites of eastern Revachol. Jean paces back and forth in the main room of their suite, his hands busy fiddling with his pack of cigarettes despite the lit stick already between his lips. Trant had conceded to smoking-friendly rooms despite his own preferences - comfort for the officers who all shared the same addiction for nicotine. He was nothing if not a gracious host. “You'll wear tracks into the carpet,” he teases, stepping over to stop Jean mid-stride with a hand on each shoulder. Jean grimaces around his cigarette.
“Yeah? Guess you'll have to pay for the damages too then,” he grumbles. Trant knows the brattiness is to cover up the nerves. He plucks the cigarette from Jean’s lips and backs a few paces away. “Monetarily, yes… but we both know there are other prices to be paid when you don’t listen to me. Besides… does the Lieutenant seem like the type of person who appreciates a lack of discipline to you?” Jean flinches. His eyes flick to the cigarette then to Trant’s face before settling on the carpet between them in silence. Trant concedes that Jean’s brattiness is, in part, due to his own encouragement. He likes the pushback, the roughhousing. He imagines Kim’s tastes differ in that regard. “Answer the question, Jean.” The shift is subtle but palpable. Jean’s breath quickens, his cheeks flushing with color beneath the pox scars. Trant’s own tone of voice hadn’t changed much but he’d straightened his posture, tilted his head - with Jean slouching as he normally does he can look down to meet his eyes. “...no, he doesn’t,” Jean answers quietly. “Good. Now come here.”
