thank you for leading us!
i'm near the end. PLUMS is a gentle beauty of an essay. that image of him pulling up the hem of his sweater to form a makeshift basket to hold plums.

I wasn't able to bring this to France/Belgium so still reading #Knausgaardtogethertheseasons !
Love his plain descriptions of BBQs and grilling on p272:
"the act of preparing food for others and eating it with them, was something which opened up, brought some light and air and life into things..."

Now that we are actually reading Madame Bovary, I can’t remember what all KOK said about it?
Do you think Flaubert influenced his writing?? If so, in what way?
we're gonna do a knausgaard zoom. we just have to.

It is with bittersweet feelings #Summer and our little KOK group comes to an end. I’ve so enjoyed reading with you all over the past months. Thank you everyone, and thank you @imnjupiter.bsky.social for leading us. 🙏💕🌺
“That is one of the tasks of literature, to rind us of our insignificance and make us understand that our own way of producing meaning is merely one of many possible in the world, along with that of the forest, the plains, the mountains, the sea and the sky.”

“”Thus time becomes a place, a grotto of light dug out of the darkness, and only this can time, which we sense but do not understand and never see, acquire its own aura.”

“Hennig Olsen Båtis – Oslo, Norway (AKA. The most disappointing ice cream of my life).”

“My life is the result of many small and perfectly common place choices, good and bad some…consciously made most of them not- in decisive moments I let myself be ruled by emotions, and what motivates our feelings is something consciousness knows little about.”
#KnausgaardTogetherTheSeasons
The fictional bits about the Norwegian woman during the war seem so random and odd to me. What was KOK trying to do?

“Summer” p. 274
“…we agreed they would spruce up the garden that belongs to that house, as well as this patio.”

“…I read a Guardian article about William Eggleston who has an exhibition in London right now…I had seen some of them earlier and had been hypnotized by them.”

The Dog???? 😂🐶📖

“At times I think that is what literature is for, that literature is a place where one can express oneself freely without fearing the law of the father, the law of the dog.

“It was just long enough since the last time I had played it that the first chords and the chorus, “free free set them free” unleashed every mood I had experienced in the months when the album was new the summer when I was 16”

Went down the rabbit (bat) hole.

The Bat. “…the guilt I felt was too strong, everything within me gravitated towards it. And this is how it has been whenever the gates of freedom have opened for me later in life…”
Well you didn’t have to kill it so cruelly, Karl Ove. You could have just set it free.
"for in my mind, it is summer."
one of my favorite sections from the Summer volume is karl ove's trip to brazil during their winter with his 8 year old son.
#knausgaardtogethertheseasons
catching up. always admire karl ove's directness:
that death wasn't in the room, the brain surgeon operating in Albania, and if there was death, it was procedural, like a mechanical error amidst the lights and instruments, like a car that doesn't start. (p182).
#knausgaardtogethertheseasons
#knausgaardtogethertheseasons “Cherry Tree” may be my new favorite essay in Summer. A perfect blending of the literal with the metaphorical. KOK is a master.
I think either Spring or Summer is the strongest book in the Seasons Quartet.
