"We were not much alike, and had been brought together by factors extraneous to our real personalities." Such candor reminds me of Proust. #ProustTogether
And I didn’t mean exactly that hard is bad. Hard can be good 🤔. After all, I read #InfiniteJestTogether and #summerofGenji. And of course #prousttogether! Bit hard+disliking narrator+lack of understanding = a different kind of hard. Make any sense?

I’m thankful for my reading friends.
You’re insightful, encouraging, uplifting. You help me understand things I’d never see on my own, prod me to a diversity of books, and keep me going even on those I’d otherwise not continue.

Checked two versions of ‘Don Quixote’ out of the library today because I want to try both and then stick with the version I like best (which in this case might be the funnier one). It started with Tolstoy, increased with Proust, now I’m a translation nerd/snob. #tolstoytogether #prousttogether

I remember the grandmother reading these letters of Mme de Sévigné in Proust’s In Search of Lost Time.
I'm here! Just finished the last pages and letting the 12 books swirl around in my head now. Loved the daily reading of Powell's masterpiece and of everyone's thoughts in these 16 months.
Not the feeling at the end of #ProustTogether but autumn 2025 is definitely not summer 2021.
Many of us from #ProustTogether are on bsky now! Currently reading #AnthonyPowellTogether .
"He glanced over the volumes of his library: Moby Dick, Mr Sponge's Sporting Tour, ... and a novel called Jacob's Room, and a paper volume whose title haunted him, A l'Ombre des Jeunes Filles en Fleurs." 66

Okay if you and TTB are no longer on X I guess I’ll switch over I hate to give up my #ProustTogether family though.
I think the universe wants us to read it again @literaturesc.bsky.social #ProustTogether
Wow! week 66 = 16+ months of Dancing with Powell & friends! Longer than #ProustTogether which was almost exactly one year. 🧐
#Prousttogether my sources (goodreads) tell me that we started reading Swann‘s Way five years ago on August 14, 2020. Happy belated anniversary @literaturesc.bsky.social et al

The quote isn't far off. While reading ISOLT with the #ProustTogether reading group, I was unhoused and staying in a van. Proust and the group helped me through a difficult time.

I loved this line, sadly knowing that I might forget a dear departed husband, just for a moment, when coffee is brought in. ☕
"They brought in the coffee; he stopped thinking about her."
That perfect semicolon🤣 It brings back happy memories of #prousttogether ❤️
Totally thought that too.

"Gabriel had noticed lately that he was not seeing Paris as it was but the way it had stayed in his mind; he still saw butchers and grocers and pastry shops, when in in reality they had become garages and banks."

Don’t let the adult content scare you. Interesting references to Proust.

#RussianLit Tell me whether I should apply myself and continue reading Sorokin's Dispatches from the District Committee... or give up.
This sentence is as long as a Proust's sentence but makes less sense than dear old Marcel. #ProustTogether
