Panel 1 of 4, in which Konata enters the Hiiragi household. “Yoohoo! I’m here!” she exclaims to Tsukasa, who greets with a kind wave, “Oh, welcome!”

Panel 2 of 4. Konata already has her hands on a DualShock 2 controller, pressing the buttons in a gaming session, when she asks, “By the way, where’s Kagami today?” Tsukasa answers, “She said she was going out with a couple friends from her class.”

Panel 3 of 4. We cut to behind the girls, viewing a CRT with a blank screen and a PlayStation 2 beneath it that has two controllers plugged in. Konata replies, her face unreadable from behind, “I see…”

We cut back to in front of them, Konata now wearing a peculiar expression on her face as she remarks, “Somehow… I feel frustrated, or something is missing…” Tsukasa replies with sympathy, seeming to know exactly what Konata is feeling in that moment even if she won’t say it outright, “You’re lonely, aren’t you…”

Lucky Star manga - in which Konata Izumi asks her cousin Yui in this first panel, “By the way, it’s almost time for the culture festival. What kind of booths did you have, neesan?”

Second panel, Yui replies with her eyes closed wistfully as she reminisces, “Oh, that brings back memories. How I wanted to get closer to Kiyotaka-san (my husband)….. “…I aggressively went to his side to help him out. We were doing a mystery-solving labyrinth back then, you know?”

Third panel, in which Yui is still wrapped up in her memories. She sighs, “Oh… both of us were young… so young…” Konata comments, “I see… neesan, so you were classmates with Ki-niisan? This is the first time I’ve heard of it.”

Fourth panel, in which Yui nonchalantly corrects her cousin, “Hm? We were in a different class, you know? So I don’t remember what my own class did at all.” The warm tones of the background have turned a shocking blue as Konata reacts in alarm, “That’s no good!! You moved at your own pace even back thenb, didn’t you…” Yui has an adorably pleasant expression, with the word “nonchalant” behind her.

Wait, I’m sorry, WAIT: Yui fell for someone at school… in a different class from her?

To the point she didn’t even know what *her* class was doing???

You ever think about how Konata Izumi assigned a fursona to Kagami Hiiragi and she immediately loved it right after being like “UHH, LET’S CHANGE THE SUBJECT”

maybe make just one big blow-out anime movie where Konata & Kagami get together in the end, have a tie-in video game that gets reviewed badly because no one gets it but that Cluster and I would enjoy, I honestly don’t know if I’d need any more past that

My dilemma is I want Lucky Star to make a comeback but I also really really really want it to do that while doing KonaKaga for real

A Chance of Rain (7/30/2025) a KonaKaga/Lucky Star fan-fiction by Felicia Rondo.

Kagami visits Konata while she is in the midst of withdrawing into yet another video game. What could’ve been harmless escapism has turned into something else, and it falls upon Kagami to pull her out of it.

Konata and Kagami from the opening to Lucky Star, traced-over in Mario Paint on the Nintendo Switch 2. They're in a yellow-orange background, smiling while posing together with their hands out and their index fingers pointing outward. Konata is a short blue-haired girl with green eyes and a tan complexion, Kagami is a taller girl with purple eyes & hair and a fairer complexion. They're both in Japanese school uniforms.

The original frame that Felicia traced over, with much cleaner lines and nicer coloring than the Super Nintendo was capable of.

I'd like to draw these two for real someday, but in the meantime I had a fun time tracing over this frame from the opening to Lucky Star in Mario Paint. ^-^

There’s so much evidence for KonaKaga in Lucky Star it’s almost not worth mentioning, but I think Misao’s attachment to Kagami and grudge against Konata (despite them never meeting or interacting to any meaningful extent!) is very telling

Lucky Star Calendar artwork from 2008, for the months of July and August, depicting a Little Mermaid scenario - Kagami Hiiragi is the little mermaid, a troubled look in her eye as she is about to make a deal with Misao the sea witch to gain legs so that she may walk on land and pursue the charming prince Konata Izumi - seen in the background knelt in front of the sea, the tip of her sword placed on the ground in front of her while her ponytail waves in the windy night. Her sisters and mother watch on - Tsukasa and her mother are showing concern, meanwhile Inori seems amused by the display and Matsuri outright laughs. Minoru Shiraishi can be seen in drag at the very edge of the art, filling out the cast after they ran out of female relatives of Kagami.

It's weird enough that a Lucky Star art piece depicting a Little Mermaid AU that implicitly pairs Kagami up with Konata exists period, but I can't decide what's weirder - that I somehow didn't commission it into existence or that it's OFFICIAL???

Help, I spent over 30 minutes looking at official Lucky Star art on danbooru and there was so much Konata & Kagami action…! 😭

It's so fun how Misao clearly wants to bang Kagami and is *confounded* that, of all people, fucking Konata stands in her way
