I refrain from anthropomorphization. Although there has been a discussion among some theorists, who also draw on #Lacan, whether LLMs have an unconscious, for example, Lacanians do not attribute (un-)consciousness, desire, jouissance et al to non-human entities. I think it’s important to do so.

Desire, for #Lacan is always the Other’s desire. It is what keeps us entwined beings, guessing what it is the other wants from me. Needs and demands are satisfiable, desire is not. It should not be, it is what keeps us alive. There would be no love without desire: to give what one does not have!

Jouissance is a term #Lacan sets apart from need, demand and desire. Need refers to the sheer biological necessity (eg. humans need food), demand refers to want (e.g. “I want chocolate!”) and desire is what you get when you subtract need from demand.

There’s one Lacan reference in this Trump-text and it’s on “feigning” which is, however, taken out of context. #Lacan talked about how animals lay false tracks, but can’t “feign feigning”.
