For #Jaws50 here is a 43 year old Spiny Dogfish collected in the Gulf of Mexico. Good to remember these are wild creatures not just models for vertebrate dissection.

Lab did well conferencing and collecting in Taiwan 🇹🇼 and now doing fieldwork in Thailand 🇹🇭 #LSU_Fish

Members of my lab have arrived in Taipei for #IPFC12 Indo-Pacific Fish Conference and the Asian Society of Ichthyologists. They are doing some pre-conference collecting around Taiwan and then will head to Thailand for some freshwater collecting after the meetings.

Students know the common food fish that fisherman target - I get them to appreciate the small wonders - despite their diminutive stature these species are no less significant. This is Heterandria formosa-the smallest vertebrate in North America. They have live birth (not eggs) #LSU_Fish
