The interior of a historic Spanish colonial chapel in La Antigua, Mexico. The vaulted ceiling and simple walls are painted in peeling white and purple-toned hues, showing aged texture. At the far end, a simple tiered stone altar is covered in a white lace cloth and decorated with fresh white flowers and a figure of the Virgin of Guadalupe. A wooden crucifix hangs high on the wall above the altar. Wooden pews and a simple wooden railing are visible in the foreground.

Photograph of an outdoor shrine or altar dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The central element is a large, rectangular tile mural depicting the Virgin of Guadalupe in her traditional iconography: standing on a crescent moon, surrounded by a radiant mandorla (almond-shaped halo), with a blue-green cloak and a flowing robe. The mural is brightly colored, and around the Virgin are depictions of angels and various national flags. Below the mural, on a ledge, are various offerings, including vases of flowers, potted plants, and candles. The shrine is made of white-painted material, possibly concrete or stucco.

Image: A photograph of stone ruins in La Antigua, Veracruz, possibly the First Customs House or part of Hernán Cortés's house. The image shows a doorway or opening in a crumbling stone wall, with extensive tree roots growing over and around the stonework. The roots are thick and gnarled, creating a dramatic, almost engulfing effect. The stones are weathered and covered in moss and lichen. The interior of the structure, visible through the doorway, is also in ruins. The overall impression is one of age, decay, and nature reclaiming a historical site.

The roots and ruins of La Antigua, Veracruz – history and nature intertwined. This might be the Primera Aduana (First Customs House) or part of Cortés's house. The way the tree has grown around the stonework is incredible.
