Standing next to a wooden dock, looking out onto the calm waters of the New River. The lush rainforest reflects on the water with vivid green hues. We will travel up the river from Orange Walk to Lamanai (“Submerged Crocodile”) in a very small boat, a 2-hour meander to get to the ruins: Detouring to every interesting bird/plant/animal the guide spots along the way -- he had amazing vision! Along the way we will endure huge wakes delivered by the overpowered speed boats blasting by with tours from the cruise ships. No regard for the lush, but delicate ecosystems clinging to the river banks. By the time we arrive at the Lamanai Lagoon dock they will be leaving the site …talk about a drive-by!
