In this beautiful building lived and worked Iris and Antonio Origo who cultivated the La Foce estate, created the garden, supported the Italian partisans against the Nazi occupiers and saved a large group of children at the end of the second World War in the region. Iris wrote a moving account of the happenings which is published as "War in Val d'Orcia: An Italian War Diary 1943-1944". Visiting highly recommended and do not forget to take a stroll into the surroundings to the little cemetery where the Origos are buried.

Not exactly a palace but definitely a very beautiful garden (which is bigger than what you see here) - the home of Iris and Antonio Origo ("La Foce) in Tuscany. It has a story to tell (see alt text).
