Great gorse bush overlooks seascape and cliffs. Gorse has rich meaning in folklore. Gorse bushes were sometimes seen as a place where fairies and spirits dwell, offering shelter and protection. On May Day, gorse wreaths were hung on doors to protect against witches. Gorse flowers have a distinctive and strong scent that is often described as smelling like coconut. Some people also detect a hint of vanilla or almond in the fragrance. The intensity of the scent can be stronger on warm, sunny days.
