In its response to #Budget2025, our member @arcengland.bsky.social asks the question 'like many others in the learning disability and autism social care world, we agree. The silence is deafening.'

Still trying to process my son's hospital admission this week. Some takeaways - his hospital passport was used by some staff. Learning Disability nurse visited my son on A and E.
However, some staff made assumptions - discharge notes state he's non-verbal. He's not.

Three plates, each with a cake and fork on them. There is a lemon cake, carrot cake and chocolate cake.
Yesterday should have been the first day of year 13 for my son, but he's been unable to attend school since March. Due to a decline in health, he now rarely leaves the house. Yesterday was his granddad's 80th birthday and we did manage an outing for celebratory cake.

Historic city gate with a painting of St George and the dragon on one wall. There are branches of trees in the foreground and and tramlines going through the gates.
Well, it truly has been a school holiday of two halves this year. Lovely trip with youngest to Freiburg to visit our daughter who was studying there. The rest of the time has been swallowed up with appointments and paperwork for our middle child. #SEND #LearningDisabilty
Rather dreading the new term for a whole host of reasons.

My son had an appointment with the G.P. yesterday. The doctor made all the right reasonable adjustments, including booking a review appointment - a double appointment to give my son the time he needs at a time of day he can manage. It can be done when the will is there.

These are my two lads - 23yo. One is autistic in addition to Down’s & non-verbal. They have a severe #LearningDisabilty & pay a majority of their #UniversalCredit to ASC for day service. They will never be able to work. TG I voted #Green after being a lifelong Labour voter. #ShameonLabour

I am sharing Rosie's wonderful film. Rosie is supported and employed @macintyrehealth.bsky.social @meetmacintyre.bsky.social and lives with #Dementia #LearningDisabilty. Do take a look youtube.com/watch?v=XGMwLN… @dementiauk.bsky.social “It’s not what you can’t do ,it’s what you CAN Do!!!” 💜
A pink floral banner attached to white railings with yellow cable ties. the cross stitch words are an Audre Lorde quote and read: When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed but when we are silent, we are still afraid, so it is better to speak
A craftivism banner attached to grey railings. It's dark but the words are lit by the flash, they read: The local authority is a servant not a master, a truth which on occasion is too easily overlooked, Lord Justice Munby 2010
An epic read for Monday: Ella's Human Rights Claim www.georgejulian.co.uk/2024/12/16/e...

I am at Super 1s cricket with my son. It's just brilliant. Working on all sorts of skills in a safe supportive environment. Here, his limited mobility and speech are no barrier to participation. He's making friends and having fun too.

Happy that the next strata of my Twitter community is now here. 👋👋👋 #learningdisabilty #autism
#LearningDisabilty often caused by brain injury at birth; again no-ones fault. Lifetime of explaining for me as a sib! Don’t we just need a new school curriculum subject around all this? What to call it? Practical humanities?
