Ledaig Sinclair Series Rioja Cask Finish (46.3%)

Nose: Light peat, sour red berries

Palate: Same. Too smooth for my taste

Finish: No lingering finish apart from a sour aftertaste

Disappointing. Yet another failed wine cask finishing experiment.

Interesting dram tonight, a rare occasion drinking non-Scottish whisky. An indie release of a heavily peated St. Kilian, German single malt. And heavily peated it is 🔥, much like a decent #Ledaig. This is very tasty 😋🥃

Fles 2 in ons drieluik van verjaardagsflessen. De allereerste single cask van #Turntable. We werden opslag verliefd op deze whisky. 14 maanden gefinisht in een moscatel barrique en geblend met een 18 jaar oude #Ledaig die fier de boventoon voert

Another face-off that was all about red fruit. I thought the smoke would have just edged the Ledaig for me, but honestly couldn’t choose between them.

Wow. Lots of red fruit from both of these. Blast of coffee too from the Miyagikyo initially. However that faded away. Miyagikyo had a slight acetone note towards the end. Ledaig was rounder and softer. Ledaig nicked it at the end.

I like the standard Laphroaig 10 but this particular batch of cask strength isn't for me. Looking forward to its bottle kill to make room on the shelf to open up something else.

Two whiskies that I've had my difficulties with. It's on the finish for both of them that I struggle. They both start well but that off rubber note for the Laphroaig CS or the OTT wine note for the Ledaig that marks them down for me.
