🌱Which crops does #LegumeGeneration focus on?
Soybean, lupin, pea, lentil, Phaseolus bean & clover. These legumes support food & feed production, biodiversity, and can help reduce Europe’s reliance on imported protein crops.

🫘On #WorldPulsesDay, researchers from #LeibnizIPK & #INCREASE citizen scientists met for a networking dinner where legumes were both on the plate & in the spotlight.
Discussions also highlighted EU efforts like the #LegumeGeneration project, advancing #legumebreeding in Europe.
🌱Why focus on legumes?
💪In #LegumeGeneration, we’re boosting #legumebreeding to support:
✔️ plant-based protein
✔️ lower fertiliser use
✔️ biodiversity & soil health
✔️ EU protein independence

🌱The #IPK Leibnitz team ran a drought-stress trial to study how common bean plants respond to limited water.
390 plants from 39 entries emerged.
With Prof. Schneider, Master student Immanuel Scheil checked early growth and conditions.
