B+W photo of my mother and two sisters behind them boarding the USS AMERICA (in what looks like a long tunnel with ribs on the inside) leaving EVERYTHING behind. Obviously not a happy time for my two teenage sisters, nor my Mother who loved her homeland so much, but couldn't stay there any longer because of the danger that her husband was considered an 'enemy of he state' and they were being watched.
B+W photo of my Mother and two sisters as they were about to leave Hungary dressed in their best with bittersweet expressions on their faces...they tried to smile and make the best of it. Not really all smiles, though. They are standing on dirt with a weedy fence and a bare tree behind them. To think of what they were facing and what must have been going through their minds at this time...I can't imagine.

The trip aboard the USS America took 10 days. My Mother and 2 Sisters showed up knocking on my Father's door (I don't think he knew they were coming), and they reunited. I was born a year later...oops. #lifechangingevents #escape #newlife
