News/Opinion: Christmas 2025 is in review. A Season of Joy: Reflections on a Christmas to RememberAs I sit down to write about our familys Christmas celebration, Im filled with a mix of emotions - joy, gratitude, and a hint of sadness. Why does it always go by so quickly? Its as if the holiday season is a fleeting dream that were lucky enough to experience for a brief moment each year. Our Christmas festivities began on Christmas Eve, when we checked in on our chickens (who had been laying an impressive 80+ eggs in December!) and decorated cookies. I love baking sugar cookies and gingerbread ahead of time and freezing them - its a game-changer when it comes to decorating with the kids! We feasted on Swiss cheese, summer sausage, Christmas crackers, and chili while sipping martinis and enjoying each others company. One of the highlights of our Christmas Eve was playing White Elephant. The rule was simple: bring something you no longer used or wanted, wrapped up nicely. My niece K ended up with a hilarious frog hat on a Styrofoam head from her cousin - it was definitely a laugh-out-loud moment! We also enjoyed some quality time together as a family, playing games and enjoying each others company.Christmas Eve evening was just as magical, with my brother working his magic in the kitchen to whip up a delicious batch of seafood gumbo. We cleaned up for the childrens church service, which was lovely (although I couldnt help but feel that perhaps weve outgrown it - maybe next year well attend the candlelight service instead?). The girls put on an incredible Christmas production on our back porch, singing carols and reading excerpts from the Bible while H played the piano. It was a truly special moment, one that left me in tears of joy.Christmas morning arrived all too soon, with coffee brewing at 7:15 AM. We let the girls come down at 7:53, and their excitement was palpable as they ran into the living room, chanting 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Merry Christmas! Its moments like these that I cherish - watching my children grow and experience the magic of the holiday season.Im so grateful for the thoughtful gifts the girls made for me this year. My niece created a beautiful taper candle holder in an ornate bottle, while another niece gifted me a homemade pottery dish to hold hair ties in my bathroom. H painted wooden kitchen utensils for me to use in cooking, and K painted a box to use as a dust bath for our chickens - each one is a treasured keepsake. As the morning gave way to the afternoon, we enjoyed a nice long walk together as a family. The kids headed out to play while the adults met up with some neighborhood friends at the river. But our fun was short-lived, as when they returned home, I was informed that Finley had been bitten by another dog and needed medical attention. Thankfully, David took good care of her, and shes on the mend now.Despite the chaos of the day, we managed to pull off a delicious Christmas dinner - thanks in large part to Nanas culinary expertise! We feasted on tenderloin, mashed potatoes (which were slightly undercooked, but salvaged by Nana), rolls, Brussels with pine nuts, roasted carrots, and a sourdough winter vegetable squash stuffing. It was a truly special meal, one that well cherish for years to come.As I reflect on our Christmas celebration, Im reminded of the importance of slowing down and appreciating the little things in life. The holiday season is a time for joy, love, and connection - lets not get so caught up in the hustle and bustle that we forget to enjoy each others company.#LifeRecaps #Personal

News/Opinion: This years Thanksgiving Week will mark a historic blend of tradition with modernity, symbolizing gratitude and unity in the new year. Thanksgiving Week 2025: A Family-Filled AdventureIt was an unforgettable week for us—a blend of tradition with fresh flavors. From the cozy farm to the vibrant movie night, we navigated through gratitude and joy. Here’s a detailed recap of our week:---### Monday: The Farm FeelWe started our week on a farm-themed adventure. After Nannies passing, mom and her siblings sold their rural Georgia home to a new couple, leaving mom with 35+ acres of beautiful land—pines, woods, and a thriving meadow. We spent the morning exploring this home, picking shelled pecans from each year’s tree. The smell was electric, and the thought of sharing these sweet treats with our kids was special. As we walked to moms house, we chatted with my uncle, who lives next door. He shared stories of his family’s farm days, which made us feel like part of a traditional holiday tradition. We even helped mom gather shelled pecans for the family, a small act of gratitude that carried us forward.---### Tuesday: Moms House and SnacksAfter our day trip, we headed to moms house for snacks and drinks on the dock. The dock was lively with kids in costumes, and the ocean breeze was comforting. We had a picnic under the dock, sharing sandwiches made from fresh ingredients. Mom’s kitchen was a treasure trove of flavors—chicken, turkey, eggs, and sweet treats like chocolate chip cookies. As we sat down to enjoy our meal, mom shared her favorite recipe for sweet potatoes with us. Her eyes lit up as she explained how these simple yet delicious potatoes are the heart of traditional Thanksgiving. We laughed along, sharing stories about our family’s farm life and how it shaped us into who we are today.---### Wednesday: The Dog and Game PlansAfter our picnic, we walked the dog to explore the neighborhood shops. The scent of fresh dirt and the sound of distant birds were soothing. We spent time at moms game plan shop, where mom had left some snacks waiting for us. We bought ourselves a variety of snacks—chips, cookies, and fruit—enjoying them on the way back to our house. As we walked through the shops, we noticed a thriving meadow with wildflowers and birds singing. Mom’s meadow was home to her pecans, which had been picked that week. We shared stories about how these trees have given us so much joy and strength, reminding us of the resilience of our family.---### Thursday: The Movie NightThe movie night was a highlight of the week—a packed theater filled with kids in costumes, parents, and friends from all over. Wicked 2 was a magical experience, with its vibrant cast and lively performances. The audience erupted into applause as the movie played, and we laughed along to the music. As we watched the film, mom shared her favorite lines from the movie, which made us feel like part of a special family. She emphasized that gratitude is not just about giving something back but also about celebrating what we have. We reflected on how this week had brought us together, and how we are making each day special.---### Conclusion: A Grateful WeekThanksgiving Week 2025 was an unforgettable journey filled with gratitude, joy, and family connections. From the farm to moms house, from the dog’s walks to the movie night, every moment brought us closer together. We celebrated our traditions, shared stories of resilience, and found strength in each other. As we head into November, we know that gratitude will never be forgotten. Let’s continue to find joy in small acts of kindness and remember that this week was just one day in a lifetime of meaningful moments.
