NIGHTMARE TIGERS
Light of the Nine Realms — Creatures of Jotunheim

Found across the breadth of Jotunheim, nightmare tigers favor the equatorial jungles and deep shadowed forests. Thought by some to be the fears of tigers given flesh, they move through the canopy and undergrowth by extending their stripes into prehensile limbs, each one capable of anchoring, grasping or striking. Their true claws hang beneath them like hooked sickles, swaying as if remembering what it once meant to hunt by tooth and bone.

Despite their terrifying appearance, nightmare tigers feed primarily on fear. Their bodies, movements and vocalizations are shaped toward inducing a terror that ripens into sustenance. They stalk slowly and deliberately, savoring the rising panic of their prey long before they close in for the feast.

When a target possesses fear of an uncommon vintage such as deep grief, accumulated guilt, ancestral shame or fate-touched dread, a nightmare tiger may seize them and vanish into the jungle. These chosen victims are drained not merely of fear but of the lifeforce bound to it. What remains is a husk that wanders half alive back toward the echo of its former life.

Recovered survivors can sometimes regain themselves, but they are changed. Some return with no fear left inside them, unable to recognize danger or exercise prudence, sometimes incapable of understanding why they should flee rather than fight. Others navigate life with a brittle calm, a hollowed-out courage that alarms even the gods.

Nightmare tigers are capable of speech. They speak rarely, but when they do, it is to worsen a target’s terror, to name their hidden dread or to whisper the thing a person most fears hearing said aloud. They do not lie. They do not need to. Fear speaks for them.

Jotenheim's Nightmare Tigers

“Like their namesake, these nightmares prey on the fears and flesh of men. Their stripes come to life as if the forest wants a taste. Fear is their ambrosia. A man may survive them, but he is forever changed.”

THE MERCHANT OF JOTENHEIM

Barnabus Grymm, the infamous Merchant of Jotunheim, prefers to sail the perilous seas between realms rather than navigate the treacherous politics of the 12 Elven houses of Svartálfheim.

I don't have a preference. When I am working an idea, I sink into the genre I am writing and embrace it. Depending on the story, I can play it straight if I have to.

My latest experiment fuses mythology, magic and technology into something weirder than the sum of the parts.

In the perilous, ever-shifting timelines of #Midgard, they became hunters of gods—those who defied, hid, or found themselves lost in its temporal chaos—bringing them to heel with unerring precision, returning them to Asgard or binding their powers, forever.

HIDDEN AGENDAS: A tale of the #LightoftheNineRealms.

Closing this thread, we share a second tale, where a Valkyrie is tasked with returning renegade deities who may be hiding in Midgard, behind its veils hoping to avoid Odin's ominous gaze.

Hodr: the silent sentinel, a shadow among gods. Blind but not broken, he moves with the grace of intuition.

Where others see darkness, Hodr feels the whispers of the Rootways, charting paths even the boldest gods dare not tread.

A total bad-ass reboot!

Loki: sly, sharp-tongued, and already the weaver of chaos.

Trickery is his art, but beneath it lies a restless hunger—for recognition, revenge, or something deeper.

Teased by Thor as "the littlest giant" Loki routinely proves himself more than capable.

Tired of Kill the Gods narratives? Join me in the #LightoftheNineRealms.

This is myth, before Ragnarök—when the gods still have stories left to tell, adventures to live, and mistakes to make.

Because myths aren’t just about their ending—they’re about how they lived.

Welcome to #LightOfTheNineRealms, my living mythos—where Baldur, Thor, Loki, and others are not just legends but flawed, energetic beings learning how to shape the Nine Realms.

This is mythology before the end—when the gods still have stories left to tell, adventures to live, and mistakes to make.

Most of these stories reflect a Norse mythos which is decadent and waiting for Fimbulwinter, the super-cold period before the Norse gods engage in Ragnarök, the final conflict which destroys their pantheon and the Nine Realms.
