Actor Kate Mulgrew campaigns with Dubuque congressional candidate - Lindsay James. Mulgrew, a Dubuque Iowa native, played Captain Kathryn Janeway in Star Trek Voyager - “Iowa matters to me very much”, Mulgrew told the Telegraph Herald during a Monday visit to the newspaper. “ this is my native state. Dubuque is my native city. This is a beautiful state, populated with very decent, smart, fine, hard-working, rigorous people. I feel that (Iowa) is suffering — I think the whole world is suffering — and that requires a course correction.” Mulgrew said Iowans are distressed and frustrated that they are struggling despite their hard work. She said when she asked about strong democratic leaders in the Dubuque area who could steer that course correction, she was directed to connect with James.. “She instantly struck me as gold,” Mulgrew said. “ authenticity is everything. I am an actress of 50 years, and I know funny when I see it. (James) hasn’t got a phony particle in her being. She is deeply real, and this is what the people are going to respond to. I think she can make a difference.” She said she believes James will be able to connect with Iowans of all political persuasion to address their concerns. James said she was honored to tour the congressional district with Mulgrew. “ Kate’s Legacy is beloved, in particular in our area, and she has fought for our state in so many different ways over the years,” James said. “(Sunday) We spent the day at two different farm operations talking about the agricultural realities of everyday farmers. Their economic realities are being challenged everyday by tariffs. I want to talk about the strain, the challenges, the issues that everyday people are facing. People in Washington, D.C., right now are not acknowledging the strain that people are under.” There are six other challengers for the seat, three Democrats and three Republicans. Dubuque County GOP chair says Dems peddle an “anti-message.” As in anti-Trump?
