Today, we remember #LisaMontgomery, who lost her battle to the federal government 4 years ago. May we never forget what our federal government did to these 13 people.

I'm trying to write about #LisaMontgomery and it's still making my soul hurt every time I come back to it.

I can't decide if I want to pitch it or write something more personal.

After a 17-year moratorium on federal killings, Trump went on a killing spree. #LisaMontgomery was the 11th person murdered by the state under his authority, her case forced through despite multiple stays of execution based on her mental incapacity from the trauma of her life.

Fair winds, #LisaMontgomery.

I hope the families - both Lisa's and Bobbie Jo's - find some peace.

I hope the attorneys who failed her because of their misogyny and egotism and the ones who fought to be allowed to murder her come to understand what they have done.

I hope one day #LisaMontgomery is spoken of as the turning point in eradicating the monstrous practice of state murder, but I also hope people consider how to create systems which do not allow the kind of life Lisa endured.
