The critically endangered #FlapperSkate is making a comeback in and around the #LochSunart and Sound of Jura Marine Protected Area 🌊🐟 after commercial fishing of the species was banned in 2009 🎣. About half of fishers across Scotland 🏴 say they are now seeing flapper skates almost every day 👀.
A very blue photo, a glassy flat calm blue sea surface provides a mirror to reflect a very blue sky with a distant row of puffy white clouds. The Loch shores define the horizon with a small gap between the north and south shores leading to the open sea beyond to the west. Just beyond the reflected clouds in the centre of the image- a couple of hundred feet away in reality - is the small round black head of a seal who watched me and accompanied me while kayaking for a very long time.
