Sidney J. Sheinberg - If my estimates are correct, he would be around 150 years old. He just looks like a middle-aged man. - bisexual (At least my version of him. You. Can't. Stop. Me.) - he/him - mostly listens to jazz - plays piano frequently Idea Machine 2000 (artist's note: i used my red mittens to type these variations so i could feel like Vanilla) - he/they/she/any - genderfluid - aroace - 25 years old (2/19/00) - frequent thinker - helps their friends whenever they can - overall a really nice person to be around : )
the circuit in my brain has exploded... and caused me to accidentally slip on my desk and put my hand on the computer and grab my stylus and draw this ... oh the humanity!

Part 1 of the Review Header: Tooned Into Tunes Episode 1: The Pain and Pleasure Machine by Little Tin Frog. Below to the right is a text box with some info about the release and a promo photo of the band itself. So fun fact I actually listened to this originally about 7 months or so back in May right around when I was first getting into music and taking it more seriously. At the time I was fairly new and bright eyed so naturally I was still quick to judge anything that didn't turn me on immediately, this album being one of them. I thought it was pastiche and boring. Didn't have much depth to it. So naturally I stowed it away in my music collection where it'd sit there waiting to be listened to again. Well that day was today and holy crap was I extremely wrong about this one! For those who don't know Little Tin Frog was a band out in Petaluma, CA compromised originally of Bassist/Singer Christine Alexander, Guitarist Owen Otto, and Drummer Logan Whitehurst. If that last name sounds familiar that's because Logan himself had his own musical project under his Junior Science Club moniker which would go on to have it's own successes particularly with 2003s Goodbye My Four-Track. But that's a review for another day. On this album LTF plays primarily a good decent blend of catchy fun jangley Power Pop and head banging stomping Indie Rock with some attributions of Math Rock. I see on some music sites listing Ska and Midwest Emo as well but frankly I do not hear it. Anyways this is all to say that I really enjoyed this in general. The music has got quite the bouncy feel with hooky melodies that are quick to get stuck in your head and groovy noodly bass lines coupled with crunchy crisp guitar riffs and Logan's pristine tight drumming that wraps everything together along with Christine's poetic yet somewhat geeky lyrics. I genuinely didn't think I'd love this as much as I thought I would initially going into it but no this is a great fucking album honest and true.
Part 2 of the Review. To the right is another promo pic of the band with later member Judah Nagler and cover art to their later releases, those being the EPs Brilliant Ideas and Enetophobia which came out in 1999 and 2000 respectively. Sadly this is to be LTFs one and only sole album. They would later be joined by Judah Nagler who'd take the role of Christine's bass duties thus making her a singer only. This lineup would release two EPs (Brilliant Ideas and Enetophobia) in 1999 and 2000 respectively before breaking up in April that same year. Judah and Logan would later team up and form Indie Art Rock group The Velvet Teen who'd release 3 albums in the 2000s the last of which was without Whitehurst who'd leave the band in 2004 after being diagnosed with brain cancer and unfortunately passing away from it at 29 in late 2006. It boggles my mind as to why Little Tin Frog never blew up or made it big. For as crazy as the whole indie explosion was back in the 90s with bands getting signed to labels left and right you think these guys would've had an easy entry in. Especially with music this good! Then again it wasn't uncommon for creative talented bands to slip through the cracks like that either, look at Thinking Fellers or Jejune for example. Just how it goes when it comes to the music business. You either get noticed and succeed or you don't. Still doesn't make me love these types of hidden gems any less though. The Pain & Pleasure Machine by Little Tin Frog get 9 mushroom men out of 10 Below that are 9 Toads from the Mario series followed by a listing of my favorite tracks which are Maybe, Waiting To Be, Falling Angel, Bodies In Emotion, Yesterday's Flowers" Bright Side Of The Sun, and Mushroom Man along with my least favorite tracks of which there was one being Standing In The Crosswalk. "Remember the only opinion that matters is your own!"
For this first episode I'll be checking out the debut album of power pop group Little Tin Frog's The Pain and Pleasure Machine! Hope you all enjoy! Feedback and comments are appreciated! :3
