Inflorescences of #Lolium perenne heavily infected with ergots of #Claviceps purpurea, themselves colonized (hyperparasitized?) by #Fusarium heterosporum (syn. F. lolii), which form orange sporodochia at the base of the sclerotia (Villepreux, FR) — see Gay & Shattock (1980).

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! We studied the relative contribution of the #fitness of symbiotic and non-symbiotic individuals, as well as the #vertical_transmission efficiency, to the prevalence of #symbiosis between #Lolium multiflorum and the #endophytic_fungus #Epichloë occultans.
