Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator Moves Forward With Long-Lead-Time Request for Proposals To Secure Energy and Capacity Resources
The Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has launched its Long-Lead-Time Request for Proposals (LLT RFP), a reliability-based procurement aimed at securing long-term energy and capacity resources to meet the province's growing demand for electricity. The initiative will focus on new generation and capacity projects with development timelines of five or more years, targeting up to 1 terawatt-hour (TWh) in energy production and 600-800 megawatts (MW) in capacity addition, with specific eligibility criteria and rating systems being developed to evaluate project proposals, including a points-based system for Indigenous community participation.
