As we know, #LordVetinari is an expert in poisons. Which means he's an expert in fighting them. I'd bet a dollar he has his continuing, never-stopping research anonymously delivered to trustworthy doctors such as the Igors, Dr. Lawn, Donut Jimmy and Preston.

Dick Simnal had become the most important person in the city. Dick's mother, Elsie is a skilled midwife. Else figured out the King of the Dwarves was really a queen when her place was used as a safe house.
I am utterly convinced #LordVetinari KNEW Elsie would figure this out.
One of the reasons I like the #Discworld #TerryPratchett books is the bits with long term plans that go well past the scope of the current book.
Like when #LordVetinari decided that it would be of great benefit to the city to make sure #PonderStibbons had all the engineering supplies he wanted.

One of my favorite #Discworld mysteries is when #LordVetinari was accused of attempted murder.
This didn't set right with Commander Vimes.
As said before, Lord Vetinari does not attempt murder.
He succeeds at it.

It would destroy the man's self confidence. Rincewind's diplomatic efforts, such as they are, that comes with being able to communicate with so many so well, are vital to the safety of Ankh-Morpok.

As such, I think Carrot Ironfounderson was recruited. Oh, not by anything so crass as asking him to join.

One of the many reasons I think #LordVetinari of #Discworld is a bit of autistic is his reaction to a bit in 'The Last Hero'. He was wondering why the home team was reluctant to sacrifice the entirety of the recon team for the goal. One team for the world is worth it, right?
