Since BlueSky won't let you post more than four pictures, here's the first and latest screenshots I've taken to show the progress of the #labormountainfire and #lowersugarloaffire in the past two weeks. There's no estimate to reopen Highway 97. $70M+ spent to fight them so far.
Once again, we have the smell of smoke lingering in the Cascade foothills, no doubt due in part to the #LaborMountainFire and #LowerSugarloafFire. We need some steady rain ASAP!

Thursday was a bad day for fires in the Cascades. The #LaborMountainFire crossed US-97 and grew nearly 8K acres. The #LowerSugarloafFire grew 4K acres to the SE, with new level 3 evacuations. The #WildcatFire grew too, getting very close to Goose Prairie. #wawx

Thursday will be a huge concern for #fire weather as a mid-level jet will bring strong westerly winds to Eastern WA/OR under low RH values during the afternoon and evening. 🔥
Active fires (particularly the #LaborMountainFire and #LowerSugarloafFire) will likely spread east #wawx #orwx

Fingers crossed for some rain over the #WildcatFire and #LowerSugarloafFire tonight to help dampen potential fuel sources and scour out some of this smoke #wawx #wawildfire
Looks like the Fearsome Foursome (my nickname for these absolute LEGENDARY pilots) is back to fight the #lowersugarloaffire
Unreal, now the #LowerSugarloafFire is producing lightning. Pyrocumulus cloud tops extend more than 40,000 feet into the air. This is about as extreme fire behavior as you will see in Washington. #wawx #wawildfire
#LowerSugarloafFire is now producing lightning which surprised me especially since it's not night and not day anymore... this fire is extremely active!!! #wawx
3:15 PM satellite: Seeing a major pyrocumulonimbus cloud (radar estimated 32,000 feet) off the #WildcatFire, while the #LowerSugarloafFire is producing a smaller pyrocumulus cloud too. The #BearGulchFire and multiple fires clustered in NE WA are producing major smoke too. #wawx
Level 2 GET SET Evacuations in effect for the #LowerSugarloafFire, per Chelan County EM. #wawx #wawildfire
The #LowerSugarloafFire saw tremendous growth overnight, and it's clear to see why. A RAWS station near the fire recorded a maximum overnight RH of just 33%. This poor recovery kept the fire burning hot all night, and the resultant smoke plume is impressive. #wawx #wawildfire
The rapidly growing #LowerSugarloafFire (currently 100 acres), which is north of Leavenworth, seen from I-90 near Cle Elum, about 45 miles SW of the fire. This fire has been exhibiting “extreme” fire behavior and was called “unpredictable” by firefighters. #wawx

3 smoke plumes in one image…as seen from I-90 just east of Cle Elum…the huge plume from the #WildcatFire at left, then the #LaborMountainFire near Mt. Stuart in the center, and the pyrocumulus cloud from the #LowerSugarloafFire peeking over the ridge at right. #wawx
This is what happens when you have days of thunderstorms in the Cascades & NE WA. 5 current plumes, from west to east:
#BearGulchFire: 9,387 acres
#WildcatFire: 1,273 acres
#LowerSugarloafFire: 100 acres
#RattlesnakeFire: 4,105 acres
#CrownCreekFire: 4,390 acres
#wawx #wildfire
#WildcatFire, #BearGulchFire, #LowerSugarloafFire, and #CrownCreekFire/#BlackhawkMountainFire all burning actively this afternoon. This doesn't even include #KatyCreekFire, #TacomaCreekFire, #RattlesnakeFire, or #Perry Fire.
