The road ahead is unclear, but there is still hope.
#WangJianbing and #LuSiwei have been released.
We hope they can regain real freedom and spend a peaceful New Year reunited with their families and friends.
On Oct. 13, lawyer #LuSiwei sought a criminal investigation into officers’ abuse of power in their prosecution and wrongful conviction of him. Though the procuratorate refused to accept the filing, his complaint lays out a roadmap for #accountability.

In a media interview, former rights lawyer #LuSiwei said doctors found signs of early-stage lung cancer after his August release. His treatment is delayed as his state health insurance was cut off during imprisonment, and he remains banned from traveling abroad for care.

💡 Human rights lawyer #LuSiwei was released today after completing his sentence. His wife said they had a brief video call and that he appears to be in okay condition.

Great to know that human rights lawyer #LuSiwei has been released. His wife's younger sister and another friend waited outside the detention centre for ~1.5 hours. Later, they got Lu Siwei's call saying that he's taken to a "judicial centre" by some political security officers.
Chengdu Intermediate Court rejected lawyer #LuSiwei 's appeal on July 16. He will complete his 11-month sentence in 18 days, though his wife has expressed concerns over continued surveillance and harassment after release, as Lu endured during his previous bail pending trial.

Lawyer #LuSiwei has appealed his case, arguing his sentence is further persecution after his law license was revoked. He claims his border crossing was justified self-rescue after illegal surveillance, and the court failed to investigate police harassment that provoked his actions.
🚨L4L, @asianlawyersn.bsky.social, The Rights Practice, CCBE, Lawyers’ Rights Watch Canada, @ibahri.bsky.social, The Law Society, and 29 Principles issued a statement expressing concern over the sentencing of #LuSiwei.
