In the evening skies, viewers witnessed Mercury disappearing behind the young Moon during a rare lunar occultation, creating a brief, magical celestial event to remember #NASA #Planets #LunarOccultation #Space
#LunarOccultation of #M45 #ThePleiades 1 Apr '25. I photographed it from Preston, Lancs. Canon 1100D + Sigma 300mm zoom lens on a static tripod. I didn't stay out for the entire event but I've created a short video of what I did capture #WaxingCrescentMoon #Earthshine
A telescope, or minimally binoculars, will be needed to see the Pleiades given the light from the nearly-full Moon.
The occultation will take place from about 03h to 05h 30m UTC on Thursday, 4th December, from Britain and Ireland.

A year ago today, 21 Aug '24 I was up at stupid o'clock to image the #LunarOccultation of #Saturn. I was battling thin cloud, low altitude & dawn light so I was glad to have managed to get these images of Saturn's egress. I made a howler of ingress! #Moon #Occultation
🌙✨ Rare celestial event tonight! Watch the Moon pass in front of Mars during a stunning lunar occultation, briefly hiding the Red Planet. Don’t miss this cosmic spectacle! 🔴 #Astronomy #LunarOccultation #Mars

A quick heads-up that tomorrow there is a #LunarOccultation of #M45 #thePleiades visible from the UK. The #CrescentMoon shouldn't overpower the cluster too much. If you have binoculars it will look even better!
Stunning close-up image of Mars reappearing from behind the full Moon, captured from San Diego on December 7th. The Red Planet is seen rising above the lunar surface near crater Abel, with the large Humboldt crater visible to the north. This spectacular shot showcases the bright Full Moon and Mars at opposition, requiring no exposure adjustments.

Composite image showing a lunar occultation of Saturn, with Saturn's rings clearly visible as it passes behind the Moon's limb. The image is a series of stills from a video taken near the occultation event, showing Saturn's position every 90 seconds, south is up. The brightness difference between the Moon and Saturn has been adjusted for clarity.

A brightly lit Mars could be seen passing behind a full moon during a rare lunar occultation on Monday. A local man captured the video near San Francisco’s Salesforce Tower, saying it “looked like Mars was following the moon.” #salesforcetower #sanfrancisco #lunaroccultation #mars #abc7news
Short video showing clouds racing in front of the moon before the lunar occultation of Mars. This is what I mean when I say that I got lucky that the clouds thinned out before the event. Mars can be seen near the left bottom of our moon. #moon #mars #lunaroccultation #wolfmoon

Photo of the lunar occultation of mars in progress. A mars, a tiny, red dot at the bottom edge of the moon, is about to pass behind the moon.
Popped outside to watch the lunar occultation of mars through my camera and snapped a few frames as well. The tiny red dot near the bottom of the moon is mars!

The Moon will slide in front of Mars Monday night creating a #lunaroccultation. You'll be amazed by how fast it happens and it's a good opportunity to look for some of the Moon's features visible with the naked eye, and where the Apollo missions landed. Read more at #wral wral.com/21804882
Since it's monsoon here, so no chance for any stargazing.
