The #Lyrica seems to be doing things. Each allopathic drug we try does something different, but none kill the pain. We've had #Bupivacaine 💉💉 & #Botox 💉💉 & 2 wks of #Cyclobenzaprine on 2 different occasions & #Baclofen for☝️mo. ➕️ #Buproprion to go w our #Lisinopril & now Lyrica; makes my head wonky.

Everything in moderation, including moderation So, a couple months ago I started on Lyrica, which made me super fatigued and didn’t help with my pain any. And I got super frustrated about not being able to get anything done. Over the last couple weeks I’ve been tapering off the Lyrica, and it’s made a huge difference in my energy levels: I’m actually able to do stuff again! So of course with this surge of energy I’ve been Doing All The Things, with the inevitable result that I am now in incredible pain because I’ve overdone it (as you could probably tell by all the work I did on the streaming music prototyping over the last couple days). And of course, I got it to a spot where things are useful for a hypothetical future, but nothing anyone else can actually _use_ just yet. My life is such a precarious balancing act, huh.

Had a particularly nasty reaction to #Lyrica. Just 20mg once a day brought on:
- stiffER joints
- muscle pain
- stomach cramps
- stomach pain
- constipation
- bloating
- hot flashes
- extreme fatigue

For 3-8 days. Felt like a horrific flu + bowel obstruction, even after constipation resolved.

So tired I’ve changed my Lyrica dosing schedule to take it all in the evening, which has helped a _little_ with my fatigue but I’m still just so very tired throughout the day and can barely get anything done. I’m also still in a lot of pain and can barely get anything done because of that, too. I feel like what few responsibilities I have these days are falling by the wayside and I feel awful about it. In particular, I have a few pieces of music I need to get done soon and I _want_ to get done but I just can’t work up the energy to do so. Plus I still want to finish the basement reorganization project and that just feels Bad right now. This weekend was also pretty draining, from Song Fight! Live (which went well but which I have some Thoughts about which aren’t suitable for sharing in public), and then yesterday my ADHD support group had a somewhat-impromptu meeting at Cal Anderson which was a bit of a nightmare to get to and not worth the energy expenditure given how few people actually came. I’m just so tired of being tired.

Lyrica Just had a realization that this massive current big-fatigue problem started right around when I started on Lyrica, which hasn’t helped with my pain at all, and I do recall mentioning the fatigue to my doctor and her suggesting some other things to try, but uh, maybe this is just as useless for me as gabapentin was sure is great having a treatment-resistant chronic disorder or two

Current statuses Things seem to be moving forward, except for where they aren’t. ### Work I finally have the musical motifs pinned down for the game I’m working on, and a pretty clear plan of what actual music needs to be made for it. A lot of the music I’ve made so far will not fit into the plan for the game but that can just be bonus content for the OST, so, yay. Also it seems I’ll be writing some music system code for the game, which should be interesting, especially since I get to dust off some of the ideas that were behind Sprung’s music engine (only done right this time). ### Meds and vertigo I’ve been on Lyrica for a bit over a week now and so far I’ve noticed the following: * My pain hasn’t changed much (which isn’t surprising, it’s a low dose and it usually takes a month to start having an effect) * I have noticed my vertigo’s greatly lessened right now, although that might just be me having some good days unrelated to the Lyrica * I’ve started gaining weight, just like with gabapentin * So far I haven’t been noticing any significant bowel disruption, or at least nothing more than my usual IBS-A * I’m cautiously optimistic ### New computer My new computer still isn’t working. After a few days of troubleshooting with the parts I ordered, it seemed likely that the issue was the RAM I bought wasn’t compatible with the motherboard, so I ordered new RAM and put in for a return of the original stuff. USPS got super weird and took an extra week to deliver the new stuff, which… didn’t work. So I’m thinking that either the motherboard or CPU is defective, and rather than trying piecemeal swapping I just ended up RMAing them both (but still going with the same models I had before). Hopefully one of those things was the culprit, because this is getting really frustrating. So far I am mostly just annoyed at the current landscape of PC components. It seems like the transition to DDR5 was problematic at best. ### Next basement phase Last year I finally rearranged my basement so that I could have a proper studio setup and a decent layout for my project space. But I was still using the janky crappy workbenches that were left behind by previous owners of this house, which don’t lend themselves well to actual storage or organization or whatever. I’d recently seen a video about using Ikea cabinets for a workshop and that gave me some inspiration, but while looking at cabinets I found out about Ikea’s [BROR system[(https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/bror-system-42245/) which seems much better for my needs, so I ended up drawing up a plan around those and I liked it so much I pulled the proverbial trigger and ordered some. They’ll be arriving on Saturday, although it’ll be some time before I’m able to unbox them and set them up since I’ve got a lot going on (including taking a small mini-vacation from Sunday thru Tuesday) and will have to do things in stages. But it’ll be worth it, I think. The old workbenches would be a pain in the ass to get rid of so I’ll probably just dismantle them and use the raw materials for other things. ### Vacation? I’m gonna be staying overnight in Vashon for a couple nights. Sunday night I’ll be staying in a cabin in the woods and partaking in an intense multi-hour therapy session, and Monday night I’ll be staying at a bus that’s been converted to a tiny house in the woods, mostly because I’ve been curious about what bus conversion homes are like after watching _way_ too much tiny house content. My current travel plans are that I’ll be taking the bus to the ferry, rather than driving, and relying on bumming rides off some folks I know there, which will be super inconvenient. Vashon doesn’t have much in the way of mass transit and apparently nobody drives Uber/Lyft there either, although thete is a local “vashon taxi” service which sounds like it’s just one lady who is known by the locals but doesn’t have a website, and you just have to know someone who knows someone who knows her phone number. Vashon’s a weird place. But maybe I’ll actually feel up to driving myself? I’m driving down to Burien tomorrow to take my computer RMA parts to UPS so that’ll give me a better idea if the vertigo is actually gone (or at least manageable). ### On the subject of vehicles I ordered a bike online, because it feels silly to not have one. Most of the places I drive to I could get to by bike instead, in theory, and the exercise would be good for me, in theory. Meaning that as little as I drive my car I’ll probably be driving it even less, since about 90% of what I use it for is just going to the grocery store a mile away (which is certainly bikeable). But I’d still want a car for some things, especially if my vertigo issues can stay at bay for the long run. ### Song Fight! Live! Oh yeah and before I forget, Song Fight! Live! is happening in just a few weeks, here in Seattle! It’ll be at Jellyfish Brewing on August 8-9, and will hopefully be livestreamed on the Song Fight! YouTube channel. I hope you’ll come see me perform!

Meds and such I had a long-overdue physical with my doctor last week, and after explaining my various struggles with fibromyalgia, long COVID, and suspected ME/CFS she put me on two new medications, Singulair, for the persistent shortness of breath, and Lyrica (pregabalin), for the chronic pain. I’ve only been on them for a few days but here’s some observations so far: My breathing problems have cleared up quite a bit, in that I’m not randomly feeling short of breath when I’m just sitting on the couch. So far I haven’t noticed any of its many potential side effects, but I also theoretically shouldn’t be noticing any positive effects this soon either. I haven’t done any significant physical activity so I can’t yet tell whether it’s effective as a prophylactic against exercise-induced asthma (which is the main reason I’ve been told I should be on it for years). I haven’t noticed any significant reduction in pain, but I did have a day of extreme drowsiness when I started the Lyrica. The drowsiness has already cleared up but I’m still having a bit of “finger no worky” problems at times, and I’m already having the major constipation that happened with gabapentin. Increasing my water intake is always a good idea as would be going back on docusate, although I don’t recall that helping with gabapentin. I’m definitely feeling a bit dizzier than usual and won’t be driving at all until things settle down a bit. Fortunately there’s Lyft (sigh) and the bus for most of the places I need to go which aren’t in walking distance. I’ve been thinking about getting a cheap electric bike/cargo trike/scooter for grocery and short-distance travel purposes, and that might even be an overall better setup than owning a car anyway. Also as of late my hypermobility has gotten a lot worse and I am pretty sure I do have some form of EDS (and not just some unspecified “hypermobility spectrum disorder”) after all. So, that’s fun. My disability hearing is in two weeks and hopefully it goes better than the previous parts of the process. I’m not optimistic.
