I bit the bullet and I'm currently installing #rust, via #macports.
It's taking way longer than I expected but it also seems to fetch stuff (windows-targets-0.48.0.crate ??) which doesn't mae much sense. I guess I should have looked at the possible variant flags :)

A small annoyance for any #MacPorts users who have local port sources (e.g. something you added to ${prefix}/etc/macports/sources.conf):

MacPorts 2.11.6 is stricter about permissions such that if your custom source is under your home directory then `port` will have permissions errors when doing […]

Ditched brew

Homebrew broke down because I'm using the OpenCore Patcher. Fine, I'll use MacPorts that work fine. Not gonna replace my fine running 2014 mac because the manufacturer decided to stop supporting it. I hear the GNU/Linux runs fine on it too! #brew #macports #macos

Newly covered #Unicode code points in iOS 26.

I have to admit I have not updated anything to 26 yet. At least on Mac I usually wait for #MacPorts issues to be cleared up, but this one might take me a while […]

On my #macOS laptop, #MacPorts doesn’t seem ready to patch the recent #Git #vulnerabilities, unlike #Homebrew. 🔓/🤓

I generally prefer MacPorts (www.macports.org) over Homebrew (brew.sh) on my Mac. I have both because sometimes I need them for convenience, but Homebrew has a horrible habit of unexpectedly updating loads of stuff due to over-simplified dependency handling. Go #MacPorts !

Install pandoc on macOS with MacPorts

Hey there #techsky just your annual reminder that `pandoc` is one of the best tools that you can install on your system.

It is a swiss army knive to turn doc type a into type b.

And if you are on mac use #Macports (I just like it better than brew)

The #MacPorts #Dart / pub portgroup machinery was heavily inspired by the #Rust / #cargo portgroups, likewise pub2port and cargo2port.

The Dart pub system and pub.dev hosting work quite well with MacPorts and its concerns as a package manager. I mention this because I am also the primary […]

Itch successfully scratched 🎉 I just made:

- a set of #MacPorts portgroups for making ports for #Dart projects: https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/27706

- a tool for generating the dependencies list from a pubspec.lock: https://github.com/amake/pub2port

All this so that I could […]

If you are at #FOSDEM, I brought plenty of stickers of #MacPorts. Hit me up if you are interested!

I have not yet seen any sticker boxes around. Is there anything like that to distribute them?

Huge improvements for syslog-ng in MacPorts Last week I wrote about a campaign that we started to resolve issues on GitHub. Some of the fixes are coming from our enthusiastic community. Thanks to this, there is a new syslog-ng-devel port in Mac...

Do you have an old #Mac? You can still use up-to-date syslog-ng on it, if you use #macports:

www.syslog-ng.com/community/b/...

It includes now a recent syslog-ng version with most features enabled, even on older #MacOS versions including on #PowerPC.
