In a few hours #BepiColombo will do its 5th gravity assist (or flyby) around Mercury. This is the first time #MERTIS is going to observe the planet, and its the first time there will be a mid-infrared light observation of the surface of Mercury! 🤩 #BepiColombo (Infographics by #ESA)

In the Planetary Spectroscopy Laboratory (PSL), @DLR_de can simulate the conditions of the planet’s surface. Rocks 🪨 are examined at 450°C 🌡️ in a vacuum. The results will be used by @BepiColombo & #MERTIS teams following the 3rd #MercuryFlyby in 2023:...

Der Nahvorbeiflug von @BepiColombo ermöglicht einige noch nie durchgeführte Untersuchungen der dichten #Venus-Atmosphäre.🔬 Das Spektrometer #MERTIS zeichnet mit seinen Sensoren z.B. #Infrarot-Aufnahmen auf. Erwartet werden ca. 16.000 vollständige Spektren in hoher Auflösung. 🤩

Am 15.10. "fällt" die @BepiColombo auf der Reise zum #Merkur an der #Venus vorbei. Tolle Gelegenheit für einen Test unseres Spektrometers #MERTIS. Heute werden zwei Experiment-Sequenzen gestartet & dabei fast 100.000 Spektralaufnahmen gemacht....
