Ups, just learned that @bsky.app doesn’t allow yet upload of custom gifs… therefore, let’s do videos! 🎥 #BepiColombo #MercuryFlyby
And stay tuned for more updates, as the next #MercuryFlyby #5 is happening in a few days, beginning of December 🤓
The second one was taken a few months ago, last September, when #BepiColombo did its 4th #MercuryFlyby. It went down to just 165 km from Mercury’s surface, closer than any other spacecraft before 💪🏼 And you can tell by the level of details in the pics👇🏽
First one is from the #MercuryFlyBy #3 that took place mid June 2023, when #BepiColombo came down to ~236km from Mercury’s surface at closest approach👇🏽
In the Planetary Spectroscopy Laboratory (PSL), @DLR_de can simulate the conditions of the planet’s surface. Rocks 🪨 are examined at 450°C 🌡️ in a vacuum. The results will be used by @BepiColombo & #MERTIS teams following the 3rd #MercuryFlyby in 2023:...
During tomorrow’s #MercuryFlyby @MERTISonBepi will be looking in the ‘wrong’ direction – away from the planet. 😅 However, this doesn’t mean our MERTIS team will be bored…
🚀 @BepiColombo will conduct its first #MercuryFlyby at 🕐01:34 CEST tomorrow morning. Since its launch in 2018, the spacecraft has already completed three of its nine flybys – one #EarthFlyby 🌏 & two #Venus 🟠 flybys.
