Dear MG and #kidlit folks, I'm going to miss #MGBooktober. It was always fun, and I found tons of new stuff to read.
Two dolls with glowing eyes in a basket sitting on a welcome mat hold two books: Eleanor, Alice, & the Roosevelt Ghosts and The Carrefour Curse.
Would you rather read about a haunted house or a sentient house?
My dollies say: Why not both?
Middle Grade spookiness with ELEANOR, ALICE, & THE ROOSEVELT GHOSTS and THE CARREFOUR CURSE

Black and white photo of stones, candles, water, and tea leaves laid out in preparation for a divination spell, reflected in a mirror. The book title, The Carrefour Curse, overlays the image.
An excerpt from THE CARREFOUR CURSE:
"It's important for me to know what kind of danger I'm in. If somebody had told Sleeping Beauty to stay away from spinning wheels, she probably wouldn't have gotten her finger pricked. But I'm nervous."

Jadie in Five Dimensions features geometric patterns in green, a pink-faceted crystal reflecting images of teeth, eyes, and fingers, and the protagonist Jadie striding confidently atop the crystal.
Close up of the pink crystal, its facets filled with monstrous teeth, eyes, and fingers.
Looking for monsters this October? Jadie's monsters come from the 4th dimension. We can only glimpse them as 3D cross-sections of teeth, eyes, and talons.
But rest assured, they can see us just fine.

I can't keep my eyes open for *any* book these days, but the friendship drama in SO DONE by @ThatMGBookChick had me totally glued to the page. TURNING POINT is high on my to-read list! #MGBooktober
I only read the first 3 books in the series, but the Netflix adaptation of A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS is so brilliant, it made me want to jump back in. #MGBooktober Day 30 (Also, how is it Day 30 already??)
Wait, there's still time to read *all* of them, right? Up next: TWINS by @varianjohnson, TUNE IT OUT by @jamiesumner_ , ANY DAY WITH YOU by @maerespicio. #MGBooktober Day 29
So. Many. Uncomfortable. Realities. I'm grateful to STAMPED for giving us another way to look those realities in the eye. #mgbooktober
I have extra copies of these 3 books about navigating MG friendships, so let's do one last #MGBooktober giveaway!
RT & follow me, @DebbiMichiko and @Leeseray by 7pm Sun 11/1 to enter! I'll pick one winner Sun night!
Great timing! Today, my local bookstore got DIMENSION WHY: HOW TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE WITHOUT REALLY TRYING by @johnmcusick! I'm only a few chapters in and I've already LOL'd several times. π #MGBooktober
When I read KEEP IT TOGETHER KEIKO CARTER by @DebbiMichiko, I loved Jenna. So guess how happy I was to hear she's getting her own book! HOORAY!! π€Έπ€ΈββοΈπ€ΈββοΈ #mgbooktober
Also, I guess I missed Day 21 of #MGBooktober: post a photo of your favorite place to read. So I'll be the kid in the classroom with the flippant answer today.
The world building in @devafagan's RIVAL MAGIC was so vivid: enchanted forests, magical seas full of mermaids &monsters, talking ferrets, dancing turnips! But I'd visit so I could hang out with Antonia & Moppe. I loved those girls!! π #MGBooktober
One of the *best* moments while publishing a book: seeing an illustrator bring my story to life! The colors! The energy! The emotion! I'm so grateful for my talented illustrators @maike_illu and @xindiyanart π#MGBooktober Day 23
There have been so many great debuts this year, but I'd like to send @JanaeMarksBooks some extra #MGBooktober love for writing a fun, engaging mystery that also happens to ask big questions.
I love being a part of book Twitter for this exact reason: you all give great recommendations! I also *pounce* on my copy of @HornBook when it arrives. If @FuseEight gives a book 5 stars, it immediately goes on my TBR list. As do recs from @printbookstore! #MGBooktober
I'm grateful to have a fun, joyful distraction like #MGBooktober during this stressful season. To pay it forward: a GIVEAWAY! Follow & RT by 5pm EST on Sun 10/25. I'll send 1 winner A DOG-FRIENDLY TOWN, MAYBE A MERMAID, & a dogs-love-books bookmark! π π π π πΆ πΆ@mackidsbooks
I can't lie. The 2021 book I'm most excited about is THE HEROES CLUB, my 3rd novel with @GraceKendallLit. Didn't @maike_illu and @casa_cassie design another STUNNING cover? I'm so lucky to have so many creative superheroes on my team! π #MGBooktober @MacKidsBooks
Um. I have lost count of the number of kids & adults who have recommended this book to me, but I *still* havenβt read WONDER. I know, I know. π³ #MGBooktober Day 18
Recently, my cousin rec'd a MG by @garlando_luigi about Giovanni Falcone, an Italian judge who went after the mafia in the 80s. Falcone exemplifies courage, grit, & our duty to fight injustice no matter how deeply ingrained. (Also:1st MG I've read in Italian! β¨) #MGBooktober
To celebrate my book launch last month, mia famiglia in Bologna sent me this gorgeously designed collection of Giovanni Rodari fables from @EnchantedLion illus by #valeriovidali. Every single page is filled with wonder. An absolute treasure! #MGBooktober Day 14
I'm a graphic novel fangirl, so this one's tough, but WHEN STARS ARE SCATTERED by @dantey114 and @JamiesonV was a definite stand out for me this year!! #MGBooktober Day 13
Turns out I needed something extra fun, charming, and clever. EVA EVERGREEN, SEMI-MAGICAL WITCH by @julieabebooks was the perfect magical cure to save the day! β¨ #MGBooktober Day 12
I don't read aloud much myself, but loved hearing @TorreyMaldonado read both WHAT LANE and TIGHT. It's extra cool when audiobooks are narrated by the author, and these two read-alouds are terrific! #MGBooktober Day 11
DRAGON HOOPS by @geneluenyang made me think deeply about storytelling and structure, while asking honest, important questions about how and why to write about difficult topics... and it made me care about *basketball* of all things, too! #MGBooktober Day 10
I've thoroughly enjoyed Drest's two gripping adventures with bandits and knights, Scottish forests and intimidating castles. Dare I wish for more? Thanks to @dianemagras for the riveting reads! #MGBooktober Day 9
Apparently, I'm feeling overwhelmed this week. I saw yesterday's #MGBooktober prompt & completely froze: Favorite GENRE? But I like them ALL! What should I choose? Mystery? Fantasy? Sci-fi? Contemporary? Historical? Graphic novels? I perseverated all day. Then I went to bed. π
#MGBooktober Day 7: I'd like to send some extra love in the direction of @annbradenbooks today. Ann is tireless, fierce, empathetic, kind, silly, and an excellent emergency reader. ;) I cannot *wait* for her next book, THE FLIGHT OF THE PUFFIN to hit the shelves!
#MGBooktober Day 6: For my students who are Percy Jackson fans, I love talking up some of my fave *exciting* adventure stories in the RR Presents series and turning them on to authors like @WriteTeachPlay @deuceofgears @Roshani_Chokshi and @KSekouM
#MGBooktober Day 5: Is it cheating to choose my own character? I can't help thinking of the AHA! moment I had when my sister @AnnaVodicka read a *very* early draft and said, "So. You realize Epic is YOU, right?" Haha! I mean he is, and he isn't. But he kind of really is. ;)
