MTC sets aside N$950 000 for staff business ideas The Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) on Thursday announced their intention to allocate N$950 000 to funding their employees’ part-time business ideas. This is part of their MTC Dreamers Programme which provides funding and education to employees actively pursuing their own entrepreneurial goals. MTC chief brand, marketing, communications, and sustainability officer Tim Ekandjo says employees are given the opportunity to present their business ideas to a committee of internal experts to be evaluated. “This year, 75 applications were reviewed, and eighteen were successful. Of this total, thirteen dreamers in the entrepreneurship category were awarded N$50 000 each, four in the talent development category received N$30 000, and one ambassador was awarded N$60 000 in a social cause category. Additionally, all successful applicants will receive three days’ entrepreneurship training to provide the necessary skills and knowledge to make their businesses successful,” he adds. Hilaria Nghiikoko, a previous beneficiary of the programme, was able to use these funds to establish a successful mini-shop in her home village at Okongo where she sells daily essentials villagers previously had to travel long distances to purchase. “As a former beneficiary, I am grateful for the support to pursue my personal dream of owning my own business. Now, I not just able to earn an extra income, but I have also managed to create employment opportunities for others and am adding value in society,” she says.
