Hurricane warning around the Oaxaca coastline roughly between Acapulco and Puerto Ángel, with a hurricane watch extending about 100km west. Tropical storm warning to the east until about Salina Cruz.
June 17 21:00 UTC 4-day rainfall forecast graphic from the Weather Prediction Center showing a swath of 16-20" (400-500mm) of rainfall along the southern Oaxaca coastline and 8-16" (200-400mm) in inland Oaxaca and southeast Guerrero. NHC/WPC: "RAINFALL: Erick will produce rainfall totals of 8 to 16 inches, with maximum totals of 20 inches, across the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Guerrero. This rainfall will lead to life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in areas of steep terrain. Rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches, with maximum totals of 8 inches, are expected across the Mexican states of Chiapas, Michoacan, Colima and Jalisco."
(East Pacific) NHC has upgraded #Erick into a Category 1 #hurricane with 75mph (120km/h) winds. Continued intensification alongside extreme rainfall is expected.

The depression is expected to become a tropical storm by early Tuesday and quickly strengthen into a hurricane by Wednesday as it approaches southern Mexico. A Hurricane Watch has been issued for portions of southern Mexico. 2. The depression will likely produce heavy rainfall across portions of Central America and southern Mexico through this week. Life-threatening flooding and mudslides are possible, especially in areas of steep terrain. 3. Storm surge could produce coastal flooding near where the center crosses the coast.
The disturbance in the East Pacific has been designated Tropical Depression 5-E. The storm is expected to strengthen, w/ possible RI. Forecast track is nearly parallel to the coast, so landfall is uncertain. Dangerous flooding is expected regardless.
