Curriculum & Activities
Each individual is uniquely created by God! This basic truth is emphasized in our instruction for all students. As a result, ALCS students learn to honor other people and to respect the rights and property of others. Training in these principles establishes a school atmosphere of discipline and order. This enables the ALCS faculty to devote more class time to actual teaching, thereby fostering academic excellence.

We offer a challenging curriculum and a variety of educational opportunities for our students. ALCS uses a combination of Christian curricula from Abeka and Bob Jones University for our preschool through elementary students. At the middle and high school level, we use a combination of Christian and secular materials which best fit our instructional goals in each academic area.

All subjects are taught from a Christian perspective.

Department Overview
Elementary
The Elementary School Program (grades K through 5) includes course work in Bible, language arts (using a traditional phonics reading approach), history and social studies, mathematics, science (taught from the perspective of discovering God’s creation), health, computers, physical education, art education, music education, and library. Beginning in 4th grade, students may participate in chime band. By 5th grade, the students may begin extracurricular sports. Through our participation in the Madison Area Independent Sports League (MAISL), our 5th grade students have the opportunity to compete in volleyball (girls) or flag football (boys) in the fall, basketball (boys and girls) in the winter, and track & field (boys and girls) in the spring.

Some Abeka textbooks have been criticized by educators as lacking academic rigor and taking contrary or reactive positions toward their subject matter. Experts from the University of Florida and University of Central Florida in 2018 criticized the content of Abeka textbooks as being markedly more simple and less challenging than the content of comparable textbooks used in public education.[8]

Abeka history books are dramatically different from mainstream books, especially on matters of race. A section of the high-school textbook United States History: Heritage of Freedom is entitled Birth of a Nation, evoking the 1915 film of the same name that glorified the Ku-Klux-Klan.[9] Other extreme Christian Nationalist rhetoric goes so far as to describe slavery as "black immigration".[10][11]

Abeka takes Biblical literalist and young Earth creationist positions in its science curriculum, teaching the Genesis creation narrative as a literal and factual account.[12] An Abeka science book denounces evolution as a "retreat from science."[8]

In 2006 the Association of Christian Schools International sued the University of California after the university rejected school credits based on books published by Abeka and one similar publisher. In the case of Association of Christian Schools International v. Roman Stearns, a judge upheld the University of California's finding that the books are "inconsistent with the viewpoints and knowledge generally accepted in the scientific community".[13]

Abundant Life Christian School uses curricula from Abeka and Bob Jones University for preschool through elementary school.

IMO, Abeka's curriculum is alarming for not only its views on history and science but also for its racism.

“Every child, every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever,” Chief Barnes said, adding that the trauma from a school shooting doesn’t just “go away.”
We need more than thoughts and prayers. #Madisonschoolshooting

I'm sorry, but give me a freaking break.

And furthermore CNN, why does gender matter?

Other than the myriad CNN execs silently hoping on the chance it could end up the shooter was transgender?

They're already saying as much on-air.

Relax America. It’s just another school shooting. It’s not like the kid was trying to use the wrong bathroom or read a banned book. #MadisonSchoolShooting

Here comes all the “thoughts and prayers” from the gun lovers out there.

You can take your thoughts and prayers and shove it.

Man. God sure works in “mysterious ways.” It happened again—at a Christian school. Must’ve been His will. I don’t understand why God keeps choosing guns over children. Oh well. There will soon be hashtags, and thoughts and prayers. #SchoolShooting #ItsTheGunsStupid #MadisonSchoolShooting
