Extract of the book, MAD SISTERS OF ESI, continued from previous post: "'Comes' of course is the wrong word. The museum is always there, invisible and waiting. *Khol* is not so much a summoning as it is a door. Think of the transition as a melting--your reality is swept away and replaced with the museum. It doesn't matter if you're sitting, standing, or perched in the belly of a ship sailing through the black sea--when you whisper 'khol,' you will find your feet on sandstone floors and when you look up, you will see you are in a corridor made for giants."

This is hands-down my favourite place in #madsistersofesi and the one thing I wished we had in the real world. It’s a fluid, thorny, gnarled and inexplicable way of capturing the collective community we all live in and with. And although it’s low-key trying to kill you, it’s very, very cool.

Tashan Metha: Mad Sisters of Esi Transparency note: I was allowed to read this as an e-arc by DAW via Netgalley. This is one of the few cases where I wholely understand and subscribe to the comparison to another well-known novel: "Mad Sisters of Esi" by Tashan Mehta is indeed a fitting recommendation for anyone who enjoyed "Piranesi" by Susanna Clarke, I think. And yet it is very much its own thing that doesn't need to borrow graces or glories from others.

I had the chance to read "Mad Sisters of Esi" by Tashan Mehta before its publication on August 5th. It was amazing. Please find my longer review in both English and German here:

You know, and I know, but just in case someone *doesn’t* know - #madsistersofesi comes out August 5th and is available to preorder now.

A little more than three months until #madsistersofesi comes out in North America, and I’ve been thinking about how best to talk about it. The answer is I have no clue. Each geography has its own context and ways of relating, and this one is a mystery to me.
