A yellow‑brick Main Street storefront with a large red “EMPORIUM” banner hangs above the entrance, reading “Dry Goods Notions & Toys.” Two plain brown trash cans sit out front, one labeled “RECYCLE.” Several strollers are parked nearby. White trim, columns, and large windows frame the building, and autumn decorations with leaves and a pumpkin appear on the right side.

Opened in 1998 as Countdown to Extinction, renamed Dinosaur in a weak movie tie‑in, the ride reminds us to explore and exalt notable trash cans long after their era ends.

27 years later, it went extinct too.

Photo collage showing the 5 primary trash can styles across different themed lands in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida. Each can is plain and utilitarian, with minimal design—mostly solid colors like gray, brown, teal, and orange, featuring simple recycle logos. The cans lack distinctive theming or decorative details that traditionally matched each land’s aesthetic, highlighting a shift toward generic, standardized designs.

Brown is not a theme.

Back when the Enchanted Forest debuted in Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland, even trash cans told a story: stripes for Storybook Circus, faux wood wraps for the forest.

Today? Brown boxes. No texture, no charm, just catalog stock.

Bring back the planks.

When the Enchanted Forest opened in MK's New Fantasyland, trash cans mattered: stripes for Storybook Circus, faux wood for the forest.

If theming is storytelling, this chapter reads: “We stopped trying.”
