Mahmudullah announced the news on his social media accounts.  Prior to February 2025, Mahmudullah asked the board to not consider him for a central contract.  In his tweet, he stated, "I have decided to retire from international cricket,"  "I want to express my gratitude to all of my coaches, teammates, and most importantly, my supporters, who have always stood with me.  I would want to express my gratitude to my parents, my in-laws, especially my father-in-law, and most significantly, my brother Emdad Ullah, who has been my coach and mentor since I was a young boy," he continued.
