I love the Bloom for #LiminalHorror which can be adapted to be heroic…I adapted to #MaizeBorg which is not heroic but also not horror

Interior of a normal precolonial MesoAmerican house, there is an image of a deity, a cloth covering the door, a woman cooking at a comal, various tools, and a baby on the woman's back. Outside people work a field and someone in a canoe talks with someone on the shore. There are turkeys penned outside.

With #KOKOTÖNA and #MaizeBorg in development this is the best Morktober ever

🧵4/13 You can find a handful of others in the Florex Codex, and a few more in anthropological research and other codices. Why so few examples of strange creatures? Where did the rest of the monsters go, to put in your Meso-American TTRPG games like #MaizeBorg or #KOKOTÖNA?

Role playing table to create the powers of a magic mirror it reads.

**What does the mirror do (Each mirror works only once)? Roll 1dX**

1. Summons the spirit of an ancestor, who will answer truthfully one question that the character puts to them.
2. Transport the character to the nearest safe place.
3. Cast a room into darkness
4. Illuminate a room.
5. Transform your appearance to something innocuous until you speak.
6. Transform your appearance into something terrifying (Instant morale role from enemies) until you move your feet
7. Speak a sentence to someone else who has held the mirror.
8. Summon the figure that the mirror is crafted like, who will assist the player for an encounter/scene and then disappear (Roll 1d6 1. Child of Quetzalcoatl 2. A jaguar 3. An Eagle 4. Alux 5. An Imperial Warrior (1d4 for type) 6. A child of Cipactli)
9. Fill an area with water.

Role Playing table that that says how you use your magic mirror, and if it works. The text reads

**How does it work? 1d4**
1. Put the mirror on an altar. The person who placed it there can use its effect once.. If the mirror is truly magical, if it is ever removed, suffer some minor calamity.
2. Break the mirror.
3. Cut your finger on one of mirror's edges (-1 Agility and Presence until the person person receives healing)
4. Sacrifice something of value before the mirror (mininum value 5 cacao or the size of a guinea pig)

**Does it work?**
Each mirror only works once, or depending on the roll never. When the player
Roll 1d8
1-4: Works as described
5: Does not work at all
6-7: Has a random effect (Reroll on the table above, but keep some aspect of the original effect. For example if the mirror was supposed to cast a room into darkness, but instead transports that person to safety, a shadowy spirit may grab up that one player and take them to the nearest safe location)
8: Has the intended basic effect, but causes some hardship for the player.

Just working on a little something that GMs can use for #Maizeborg and hopefully #KOKOTÖNA or any other #Borg if they're interested

I discovered Obsidian and I am in the process of adapting The Bloom from #LiminalHorror into a #MaizeBorg scenario...I am so excited for my players to dig into this.

Ceiba trees, when conjured by a Behique Healer, can walk and fight so long as they have access to water.

I started with sticks, sculpted on sinuous Ceiba roots with Milliput, twisted wire for branches, tore up some foam for foliage, and added some 3d printed mushrooms.

Of course I did #maizeborg trees for #entmoot25 ! Sticks, wire, milliput calabashes, and a skull from the "skeleton warriors" bag that keeps on giving.

The few who claim to have visited Xibalba and all relate that the underworld demons forced them to play the BOLLgame against a number of pale-skinned, oddly-dressed, bearded men who spoke an unnatural tongue and carried unfamilar weapons. #maizeborg

Going to be a lot of reposts. from here on out of @hobbymule.bsky.social My conspirator in Black Market Press and the artist behind the #maizeborg #miniatures which have been driving a lot of the inspiration for the project. Not to mention the writer of much of the lore of Uay. Also, a dog lover.

However their sacrifices didn’t require enough pain and suffering, so the gods killed them all and started again. In #MaizeBorg some of them are still around in forgotten places and are longing to remind you they exist. Kill them quickly or they can rebuild each other and you will be forgotten.

This #StuffSunday we are going to talk about a simple little item that opens up an entire game that is in the works to take place in the world of Uay. If you roll a 19 on the common items table in #MaizeBorg you find A Rubber BOLL. This is one of the the balls used in the Mesoamerican ball game.

I sort of already went into geography of #maizeborg on Tuesday but for #furtherfriday I’ll talk about the great lake of Nab, the site of the massive capital of the K’in Empire. Built on an expansive but shallow lake it has served as a natural defense for the burgeoning empire.

It’s FAR more complicated than I am able or qualified to do on here. In #MaizeBorg we did our best to incorporate some Mesoamerican deities but also respect that some of them are still worshiped by people living today.

But don’t worry #MaizeBorg has lots of ways to repair weapons with spare obsidian shards and even if you can’t fix it you can still use the dull Macuahuitl as a d2 club to finish off anything lucky enough to survive.

Last minute lore for #taletuesday. #MaizeBorg takes place in the land of Uay which according to legend was created when the body of the first god Ka’k fell into the sea. Ka’k slit her throat out of anger at the treachery of her daughter Tzo and the continent was created.

For #MonsterMonday we’ve got The Night Hatchet, a horrifying fiend that comes to #maizeborg from the Central American legend of Yohualtepoztli. Here’s the description: In the shape of a man, but where the head should be: a tree stump. Where the chest should be: a gaping hole reveals a beating heart.

#StuffSunday-
With weapons and armor in #MaizeBorg I tried to make sure nothing was just a vanilla “d4 Sword”. On the other hand I love having strange items which might not have a special mechanical ability and if they do are also weird enough to move the story forward.
