Black and white image showing the stove base of a small evaporator used for making maple syrup. It's made from a 55 gallon barrel that's been flared at the top to hold a pan. There's a door for putting in firewood, and it stands on simple metal legs.
It was made in Vermont by a local company (now defunct) called Ascutney Forge. I used it for a number of seasons, and it was rusty after years in storage. It's been freshly painted black, with an added coat of clear acrylic.

Stove base of the maple syrup evaporator my grandfather gave me ~36 years ago.
I recovered it from storage back in NH, and have done my best to restore it (lots of sanding and Rustoleum). Not sure what I'll do with sugaring equipment in TN, but it holds a lot of sentiment.
