DYK #MargaretSanger was not a racist as many now claim? In 1940, her Division of Negro Service, w/advisory council of 100+ African-American leaders, set up exhibits, created press coverage, flooded black groups w/info about birth control, & lobbied medical groups.
#FrancisGalton (d.1911) coined the word “eugenics” — “good in birth” believing we could end the population of the "unfit" by controlling breeding. Some followers wanted it done through force. Others, like #MargaretSanger, believed every woman had a right to decide voluntarily.
