Alright, I finished it. The last twenty minutes were actually heartbreaking. Jolie REALLY shone in the Goodbye scene with Onassis and that final "Vissi d'Arte" montage had me tearing up. Why wasn't THE ENTIRE MOVIE like this? Maria Callas remains forever elusive. #Maria2024

Egads, a scene with JFK flirting with Callas after they met at his infamous birthday gala? And her insinuating that Jackie was already with Onassis by then while "Addio del Passato" murmurs in the background? (Hint: No evidence for that) This movie is sinking to tabloid fodder now. #Maria2024

Oh Christ, they put a scene about her lost pregnancy in there when there's NO evidence for it. And the scenes with Onassis are making my skin crawl. The man was vile but he HAD charm (That's how he fooled folks). And then the nonsense about a "caged songbird". Gross. #Maria2024

A reference to Callas' mother not just making her daughters perform for Nazis and fascists but also to do sex work...ofc they had to use that. Yikes. The mixed Puritani sequence WAS very moving though, Angelina has got a voice in there, those "current" segments were hauntingly eerie... #Maria2024

This movie is honestly starting to irritate me. A "companion" named MANDRAX (Callas' sedative of choice) only she can see...and then they exploit her dependencies and grief in a way that seems tactless and intrusive. Maria Callas deserved better than this. Ugh. #Maria2024

The scene with the coach is moving (If a lil' contrived) but Callas would NEVER have gone into a rehearsal/coaching without warming up her voice first and the coach suggesting she should SHOUT to vent her anger...NOPE. That's terrible advice for a singer trying to get her voice back. #Maria2024

Having her burn her stage costumes is...a choice but they show her burning costumes that STILL EXIST? Then they DO choose Casta Diva but to show how broken her voice was at the time. I'll give Angelina props here, this is very brave & vulnerable but...also eerie..prolly intended that way. #Maria2024

Alright. They begin with her recording of Desdemona's Ave Maria & a montage in nicely recreated costumes & gowns (Though Tosca wouldn't sing Vissi d'Arte wrapped in her cloak) and I think that Norma's CASTA DIVA would have been a far better choice as Callas never sang Desdemona on stage. #Maria2024

Alright, as a Maria Callas fan, I'm gonna watch "Maria" with Angelina Jolie and do a live reaction on here. My hopes aren't high but I sat thru "Callas e Onassis" (In Italian), I'm sure this one will be better than that. Still...her look is ALL WRONG. Let's get into it!! #Maria2024
